Reinstall factory content into internal storage

I appear to have committed the same mortal sin on my Live II

The original owner had saved a load of projects on the internal storage and I only had 2GB free so after working with an SD card and USB flash drive for a while, I got myself a Kingston A400 SSD to go in there which, by the way, only draws 1 Watt during operation whereas EVERY other brand of SSD draws an average of 2.5 Watts so the Kingston A400 will have the lightest impact on your Live II battery when you’re not on the mains but anyway, I digress...

I opened and ‘saved as’ all his tracks to move them to the SSD but found that I still had 13-14GB used so I thought I must clean up more stuff from the internal disk to make more space and this appears to have borked the factory content

The result is that I no longer get the ‘Start’ button when I power on, it just goes straight to the Template/Demo/Recent page which I guess isn’t a problem but when I browse for samples, all of the buttons on the left under ‘Content’ displays a load of empty folders. I guess I’ve got to run Akai Support’s Factory Reset script so I’ve logged a ticket and am waiting for a response but reading this thread and seeing that they might not reply for days or even weeks, I wonder if anyone who has it wouldn’t mind PM’ing me or emailing me (crymynylmynd @ gmail .com) a download link to the recovery file? Pleeeease? I promise not to do it again!

The Start Button only appears when you DONT have it Plugged in. Does it go straight to the Templates on Battery Power?

No Problem. But there's a good chance your sh*t will start doing weird things. Im not 100% sure, but i think the MPC looks for certain Files/Folders upon startup. And when they're missing, it creates a Hiccup lol.

Yeah, I’ve read that too. I did put a ticket in with support so hopefully they will come back with the recovery file sometime soon.

Didn’t get a response to my ticket so called the technical support number which was in Germany who said I need to talk to UK technical support and gave me the number. Turns out they’re almost in the next town to me me! Small world...

Anyway, they emailed me the “Reloader” which is about 8GB, consisting of an autorun script, the Demos and The Vault 2, Instruments and Clips expansions which are all available under your account on the website. I’m not recommending this but it would probably be possible to open up the MPC, take out the internal microSD and load on the expansions yourself. This wouldn’t include the OS and other files you might have deleted though so best to follow the official process. Took about 15 mins but now everything is back where it should be

I'm in the same situation as you guys and I'm getting increasingly desperate with this issue.
I've contacted Akai support 4 times in the span of 2 months politely asking for the factory content restoration file. I've explained what I need and what I need it for and I've provided proof of purchase. Didn't get a single reply.

I've just sent my 5th email but it feels like I'm talking to a wall. I'm a bit puzzled as to why Akai is not providing these files to me or some of us.

Thanks to those who have detailled the process here by the way: since this is nowhere to be found in the official documentation, your inputs are super useful!

This takes some linux knowledge but...

Here is how to fix it without akai, this is not a tutorial just a vague outline of how to modify the internal content.

Install thekikgen's custom firmware with ssh to your MPC (dont worry you can go back to your current firmware)

Once you have thekikgens ssh enabled firmware on your mpc, go to the akai website and log into your account and download the "factory content" and "demos" from the site.

On a windows or apple computer copy the expansions to an sd card or usb card.

Plug the sd or usb containing the factory and demo content into the mpc.

SSH into the mpc from your pc and copy the factory content from usb to the internal-sd's expansion folder.

exit ssh, and power off or restore the latest stock akai firmware.

clear your settings from the *gear* (settings menu).

Bonus of ssh:
(The same method can be used to copy the "synth content" to the internal-sd so it works out of the box without needing a usb or sd for that content as well)

Not sure if they do this with everyone (other people seem to have had different results), but Akai support have just told me today, that if I want to reset my MPC completely, I have to send it in for warranty service.

That seems to be how they do it now. They weren't too thrilled that people were sharing the restoration files all over the internet so they don't give them out now.

That's cool, but I don't know if I'd recommend anyone actually does this. The "Synth" content folder would take another 1.25 GB of space from the already limited factory storage. It also makes updating the content a lot more involved than it normally would be (assuming we get more synths/content in the future).

Yeah i totally agree with you. I thought about future synth content not being able to fit, but it doesnt mean you have to copy your future content there either. The delete button works fine for that added synth folder with no weird issues.

i like it on the internal cus boot up time is hella quick and the stuff is just there for me when i wanna rock regardless of what disk or if a disk is in the unit.

(I am heavy on midi and synthesis and not so much on expansions but that doesnt mean others are, i just leave ideas so people who are ok with poking have ideas for things that is possible for them.
