Triggering chords from progression mode with an external con

Is it possible to have an external controller trigger the chords instead of using the pads?

Sure, there are plenty of controllers that can send chords over to the MPC as a single key press.

Not sure you if we've crossed wires, or if I'm not setting up correctly. I'm not wanting the controller to send the chord but the single note, but just send the single note and the progression maps set up in pad mode to create the chord.

At the moment the keyboard (Reface) plugged in via USB is sending and playing single notes, whist the pads are playing chords from the progression maps. Can the controller play these maps, not generate it's own?

I have not been able to do this with any of the keyboards I've used with the mpc..

Maybe Akai's own controller/keyboards are able to do it..

It would be a pretty neat thing, would also be neat to then be able to restrict available notes on the keyboard, to match the chords you've set up in Pad Perform mode on the MPC.. This way even if you do not have the music theory down, but have the rhythm, you can at least easily avoid playing any "sour" notes and have results much faster than when you keep playing wrong.

I believe pad perform only works with the built in pads.

Thanks this is what I suspected. I have a midi sax (Yamaha WX5), which sends monophonic midi, but is really expressive. Kind of hoped it would be able play the chords set up in the progression But also as Inbushis suggest, have chords triggered on a range of the keyboard whilst playing extension and melodies in another.

I have a midi vst plugin which is great for this. This guy is the master, everything you hear is being played from one not at a time (not that I'm hoping to do the same, that would require 4 MPC Ones)
