where to live?????

I was born and raised here in the NY. Like prah said, just because you live here doesn't mean you gonna blow off the bat. Here in NY, it's more of "who you know" rather than "what you know". I'm sure it's like that everywhere but more so here. Here, you gotta pay dues and you could be paying for years unless you either know someone who puts you on or if you in the right spot at the right time. NY is very saturated with hot producers and people who spit. there are even cats here who's been doin their thing for years and you never heard of them....

Don't get me wrong, NY is still the place to be. I will rep it til i die but i'm just sayin......

Just think about it before you make that move.

yeah but where else got contacts like that? NYC all the way. Its harder to jump off but if and when u do its much more worth it. its also about being able to do what u want in nyc, u can go the commercial route or stay within the indie crowd. Im more towards the indie thing so it offers alot more oppurtunties then say ohio.

I'll say this...A person can do the dam thing anywhere in the U S of A.The secret is to venture out and see what's just over the horizon.Just about anyplace you could live in the U.S. there are at least 4 or 5 big cities within a 4 or 5 hour drive.A living can be made in music just about anywhere.I live in Indianapolis and I personally know quite a few people that feed there family off of music be it DJ'ing,Radio,Ryhming or Producing.Start doing shows anywhere that there is a crowd.Hell I'm known to setup my turntables and PA at busy intersections and just go at it.Why?Because I love what I do and that love and passion has brought all sorts of opportunity my way.Another way to be heard is the internet(and that don't mean start a soundclick page and then call yourself a producer).Honestly the music industry really has yet to catch on to the full potential of the internet as a marketing medium.They keep suing little girls for downloading Barney songs.People still have a desire to own something tangible a digital file is not tangible but a digital file can prompt someone to seek out an album in a record store.What about the huge pool of unsigned talent out there.Producers produce.They turn nothing into something take Britney Spears for example that broad could'nt carry a tune to the toilet but you ask any 13 year old girl who she is and I bet they know.Pound the pavement get your feet wet find you an average looking white-girl with a body and shape her mold her into something...

if y'all are serious enough to move, consider what kind of music y'all are doing first.

example: if you're making alchemists-type beats, nyc is definitely your spot. if you make those southern, little john-type tracks, you'd be better off in atlanta. westside-style beats would pop off better in LA.

think about what kind of tracks you do - and EVERYONE got a style - and move to the area where your style is popping. people can say you can make it anywhere, and that's technically true, but realistically you need to be where the music is, and you need to be somewhere where your beats will be felt. if you got a crazy catalogue of bass beats and move to, say, nyc, you ain't gonna be felt like you would in miami. feel me?

Thank you..... We have a pretty good variety of hip hop and r + b music... I do alot of sampling my friend does alot of keyboard club beats... we also mix the two together. We even have a bunch of slow jams.. By the end of this sumer we should have ... around 50 pro tools sessions done most with the hooks already I hope. We have a bass player and guitar player for alot of the songs.

We are deffinetly going to move but, we realy don't know where yet. Are plan is to try and find a manager but, hit up every studio, pearson, a+r, what ever to try and get something done...

Trev, if you plan on having that many sessions done and with hooks, why don't you go for a publishing deal with ASCAP or BMI or something. Once you're involved with that, they give you lists of many types of artists who are either looking for tracks and/or tracks with hooks. How do you think alot of these producers get their tracks out. (besides having these other cats get directly at them) I am in the process of doing that myself.

I'm sorta surprised to have read this whole thread and only seen L.A. mentioned once. But that's cool, I don't want ya'll comin here. Better chances for me!! LOL

I am going to research BMI and other outlets... I have heard alot about them... Yeah, L.A. is one of the choices...... I used to live in Palmdale for a minute and I can see that L.A. is a good Idea... with so many artist from around the world coming and going out of the city.

Yea, that shocks me too. I work in Burbank, a there's loads of record companies here. Getting into those companies, well that's another matter.

That and the underground scene is poppin.
