Hi, I used to make my beats in controller mode but a few weeks ago I started to make keygroups out of my vst's to see if I could go standalone.

Now that I'm making my first beat in standalone i've noticed that my memory is loaded around 80%.
I've got 14 tracks loaded with key groups. On the 14th track I've loaded a bass keygroup and for this song the bass notes need to have a long tail. When I play the notes everything is fine but when I record the notes from 1: 1: 0 the note is being cut off at 2: 3: 0.

So after a lot of playing with program edit (Polyphoney/Filter/Env/etc) I still didn't get it to play the full note when recording. So thought that it might be an memory issue. So I decided to delete 1 other keygroup program and it resulted in the note being played up until 3: 1: 0.

After I deleted one more keygroup program it played the full note without being cut off. But the strange thing is that when you delete a program, the samples of the program are still in memory because I didn't purge them so why does it start to play full notes when I only delete the program?

Did someone else run into the same problem?

Maybe I should go trough all of the 14 keygroup programs and delete the samples that aren't used in the project.

I feel like it's a polyphony problem, I could be wrong but it's the first thing that popped into my head..

Thanks for your reaction, Could it be caused by the polyphony settings from another track?

Polyphony on master program tab maybe. Try to find any all polyphony settings is what I'd do.
Still in ram, cool, but when you deleted the track and things got better, that feels like polyphony, especially if things are stereo. The bass note, doesn't need stereo imaging does it, if no, make it mono. Everything that doesn't need stereo imaging/movement make it mono and see if that helps. If not you can always go back to the save file and start over. Undo will work too but sometimes I make so many changes It feels cleaner to reload.

Interesting.

Does his issue with the RAM also impact MIDI timing? For example if I purged all my samples from RAM before syncing my Live to the sync box and tracking into the DAW, would there be less latency?

I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to make the Live run "leaner" when tracking in.

Yess they do, I'm playing, 1x guitar, 3x strings, 1x pianos and 4x brass and all chords and 1x bass to make it sound like an orchestra.

You gotta remember 1 sample/1 note=1 voice. Not sure if stereo means it counts as two or not. A 4 note chord played by a key group with 4 layers is actually 16 voices. And those voices stay in use until that sample is completely done playing so if you've got 10 second tails that fade into silence you're going to be short voices for those 10 seconds or another sample is going to steal them and cut them off. The MPCs got something ridiculous like my EMU 64 or 128 voices but it still adds up quick when you do everything with the box. At least it aint like my Microwave XT that cuts off after 10.

Stereo is 2 samples, 2 voices being used.
Voices can get used up quick if many stereo voices are involved ESPECIALLY with the long tails mentioned above.

Flatten pad can help alleviate some of that polyphony pain.
Resampling can help alleviate some of that polyphony pain.
Both destructive methods.

Yeah, surely sounds like your voices are used up, and stereo mean two voices. All the above are correct, and voice limitation is rather usual on those machines.
