(Live, btw)
Tried to find an answer to this question with a forum search and came up empty.
I normally do the lazy thing and slice at the first downbeat, then just have the rest of the song play out while that single long slice plays. It saves time getting stuff done, but obviously makes it a pain to go in and change up the beat after that point, for choruses, etc.
So I have two problems I'd like to get around to solving:
First, how can I get the intro synced up? If I use the method I mentioned earlier, that first downbeat of a verse works fine, and the rest of the song falls into place after it, but the intro section before that, which is often just talking or ad-libbing, I basically have to play by ear, and there usually ends up being a gap in the vocal track where the intro ends and the first downbeat begins. I can go in and nudge it, then replay the intro, but that gets old quick. In a DAW, I could just move the event til the waveform touches the downbeat, and have it done in 3 seconds.
Second, and this is probably part of the first question, how can I convert the vocal slices into events correctly? If I use the "generate events" function, it asks for a number of bars, but what I really want is for it to just lay the track out exactly how it already is. Preferably across multiple sequences, but I get that that part probably has to happen manually with cut and paste.
But if I could get the slices just "as-is" as events, then I could select them all and nudge them til they sync up, then leave it at that. And I could select 2-4 bars at a time to copy into new sequences easily.
