A little disappointed

I so want to love my relatively new MPC One, but there's so much that seems half-baked on this thing.

Like, song mode - how can it seriously need all tracks to be aligned between sequences to work properly, whilst simultaneously not providing a means of re-ordering tracks?

Or the way track mutes are recorded - if your track loops within your sequence, there's no way to mute and unmute that track across the sequence.

Or the half-heated clips mode, that doesn't even properly integrate with the looper.

Or the fact you can't change tempo within a sequence - something basically every MIDI sequencer has been able to do since the 80s.

Or the fact you can't reorder insert effects, because it's not like the order of insert effects is at all important or nuffin.

It's so close to being awesome it hurts.

I hear you… and it does not help that the old heads say ‘hey it is better than it used to be’ or the software heads say ‘it is so much easier in the DAW’

There are absolutely issues in the MPC workflow, but they really are what they are. Personally I really like the MPC line for what it is, and have altered my workflow around it. You can absolutely make complete tracks on it, but need to work the way it wants you to.

My advice, use it for what works for you, and use other devices and software that you are comfortable where appropriate.

It's OK to vent your frustration, but nobody here works for AKAI or can do anything about all that, it's AKAI you need to go complain to.

They should drop 3.0 It's taking them way too long.

I mean, you're not going to get ProTools in a box for $800. Want to mute a loop? Make it a note on and shorten the length of the event. Want to rearrange effects? Define presets and just go switch them around. The tempo thing is weird but overall you seem to be suffering from a lack of creativity more than anything else.

I've felt disappointed about a few things as well, but in the end some of the lacks and limitations in this box end up being a boost for creativity. There's always a way around them. Or one just needs to get used to its particular ways of doing some things.

And when I say lacks and limitations, I feel like I should put a lot of quotes around these words, because this machine is capable of things I couldn't even imagine some years ago.

You can do everything you want to do but you have to get used to doing it the MPC way. As a new user it may seem out of whack but once you get a handle on it even the workarounds become seamless. I tend to find minor limitations inspires creative opportunity. Don't go into it expecting it to work a certain way. Internally normalize what it can do (by using it frequently of course) then make a decision on what you cant truly accomplish with it.

I think you mean half-baked. Also, if you want Clips in all their full glory, get an Akai Force. No one buys an MPC for clip launching IMHO.

To me the MPC ONE is the best thing I’ve done for my music for a long time, I can connect with this instrument like no other. And have made more music than I ever did with any other device. I am fully grateful for this little box and can get good music done with only this device. I am excited to see what’s next to be fair. I enjoy the workflow.

Exactly. I prefer working with the tools I have rather than complain about those I don‘t. And although your critique is understandable: Only bad craftsmen blame their tools.

I agree that there's some stuff in there that seems just poorly thought-out, such as the lack of easy track and FX reordering, but you definitely have to accept that and use the workarounds. Some features also seem to have been quickly implemented and then forgotten about, such as clips, I just don't think the MPC is the best solution for that type of thing, not when the force does it so much better. I feel the MPC never needed a separate clips type program, they just needed to tweak the DRUM program spec.

Definitely should be tempo change events, and there isn't really a sensible workaround to this.

But nothing is ever perfect, no matter what product there's always demands for improvements and we all want something different. I remember when a large portion of users were claiming the MPC would be 'perfect' once it had audio tracks. Well, audio tracks came a few years ago and guess what, everyone still complaining.

For me it's the little things like if you select an effect you then have to hit the edit button to open it and not being able to move tracks around easily.. Most of these little issues seem like they should be an easy fix. We already have an track edit icon put a track mover in there,two simple arrows would do the trick, select an effect and it pops right open!!!!! All these little things would definitely increase workflow, other than that I enjoy the workflow of these new MPCs

I think many people want functions of AKAI FORCE but want it looks like MPC.
