Hey MPC Gurus,

So, I'm trying to do things the MPC way, but I think I'm failing.

I make a sequence, and say to myself "this is pretty dope, but it needs more fire". So I duplicate the sequence, add some more herbs to it in the form of another track, hook them up into a song and make peace with the world.

Rinse and repeat until you got like, 12 sequences or whatever making up your song.

So then I be like, yeah, I want to add a new part across the whole song. Is there a way to quickly add a track to all my sequences, or do I have to record it into one sequence, then either copy it to all the other sequences, or create the same track by hand in each sequence with the same parameters, mix, effects chain etc?

Seems to me a lot of issues around maintaining track order, and making sure that tracks were the same across sequences when using "Song to Seq" would be solved if tracks were global for a project, instead of per-sequence. i.e. if you create a track, it applies to all sequences, but you can obviously only use it in the sequences you want.

And then I'm like, yeah, you be a noob. I'm sure some of the wise aged MPC gurus have got some dope tricks to help me. And here I am.

So hook me up with your wisdom!

Your organizational habits are entirely up to you, but what you're describing could be easier accomplished by simply muting and unmuting tracks instead of making dozens of copies of the same basic sequence.

That is true, but track mutes don’t work properly with track loops… nor can a sequence contain tempo changes.

copy the (MIDI) data from one track to another track in another sequence works (thank god for that!) , but i don't think it will copy all the routings and EFX settings over

so if only 1 part needed across the universe, why not use an audio track?
-bummer : audio tracks are bound to the sequence, so not across the board

best workflow would be then :
from your latest (most populated) sequence, copy the tracks (that are not in) to the first sequence - and mute them afterwards (in the first sequence)
then use functionality to convert your song to 1 (long) sequence
you then have 1 sequence where you can add one audio track or one CV/MIDI track all over

This is easy. Layout your sequences in song mode then convert song to sequence. Then add whatever you like. This is quick and painless.

Song mode didn’t work the way I wanted it to when I purchased my MPC LIVE. I just use NEXT SEG to juggle different sequences/tempos. While not quite the AKAI FORCE, 8 banks allow u to be a decent MPC DJ.

I hope SONG MODE has moved forward with the updates
