Just curious because I hear different things from different people.
Do you use the Reverb in the MPC if so which one?

I was on the Air reverb for a bit using the Vintage preset and its ok. like sometimes on drums, but I mostly use Valhalla in my daw afterwards which sounds better imo.

Air Delay on the 2nd Slot (Tweak the Mix %, and bring it to the Center)
Air Reverb on the 3rd Slot (Tweak the Mix %, etc)

I use the spring once in awhile on drums, but more often than not I end up running it through my Furman instead since the MPC hits my mixer before the computer anyways.

If u don’t like the reverb/delays on a beat box, I suggest u get another machine. That’s like hating the pads or screen interface. I got the roland MV in 2016 just for the pads & VGA OUT and high quality FX. It was clearly an obsolete machine at that time but the quality & quantity of FX was far superior to my MPC1K.

I swear by the following:
AIR DIFF DELAY [heavy diffusion makes it like reverb]
REVERB LARGE – always my RETURN FX #4
REVERB SMALL – I like the strange room preset with some slight tweaks

That AIR non-linear reverb is something else. I have yet to master it . . . . . .

that sounds like a juicy FX chain. perhaps a high pass filter on slot 1 ?

I think MPC key is finding the right FX combo. I never use all 4 slots but I turn different combos on/off until I find something sweet.

Strange fruits:
High pass filter + reverb on high hats
Flanger + delay on a snare
AIR PUMPER + PHASER on low end

Depends on the Sample. If its too Muddy, i'll just apply a HP Filter on the Pad, in the Filter Page

I use HP on quite a few things. I call it a "digital diaper" cause it's always cleaning up the bottom.

Don't think the included reverbs are particularly nice or noteworthy, they're functional and that's about it for me..

I'll use the spring reverb as an actual effect, where the point is excessive reverb..

But if I want a subtle room effect on drums, it tends to not be capable of being as subtle as I often want and it's a hit or miss that is dictated by what sort of drum sound I want it for.. Because it is more or less compatible with different kinds of hits.. And I'm talking reverb from a sound design aspect rather than strictly as a reverb effect, because then pretty much any reverb will do the job.

But I'd want some more control over frequencies and resonance so I can boost or cut in such a way that I can tune the sense of room to be more of an extension of the drum hit itself... And I'd want control over the envelope so I can shape it better if simply adjusting length or wetness is not enough.

So I use it very lightly on drums if at all, and then instead work on reverbs in the computer when I have recorded everything, as I have better/more options there..

But I would absolutely love to see a convolution reverb in standalone as this solves a lot of issues otherwise coming from a lack of control, as you can work around that with the choice of impulses..

And it's awesome for more creative uses as well.. Want give your drum patterns bit of a jazzy, brushed feel?

Then instead of using traditional impulses based on white noise bursts, load up a brushed snare hit to use as an emulation of a room and have it affect your own drums to give it a similar feel... That snare hit IS the room and the shape of it's physical body will affect whatever is sent through it.

Or, want to have your hihats to get some more color, and not just be a noisy sizzle?
Well, you can load up a conga hit or some other kind of tonal percussion and have its character rub off on those hihats.. You can essentially warp a hihat pattern into a conga pattern this way if you want.. it is great fun to experiment with.

So much missed potential, and I do not think that this is something that needs to be a heavy plugin... There's simple ones available as vst's that gets the job done, and it can drastically alter the sound in ways that regular reverbs can not do..

Sadly I still have to get my MPC recordings into Cubase before I can use a convolution reverb. .

And this is one of the reasons I wish akai would just open up the mpc for third party developers to create whatever plugin they want.. It's going to give these MPC's an insane boost in potential.. And keep the hype alive for decades to come...

Basically for the same reason that you've still got gaming fanatics hyping up games like Skyrim, because the developer allows the modding community to create their own plugin that allows you to play in different ways..

And they could even set up some sort of app store that gives them some percentage of plugins sold, if they want some sort of official control and overlook as well...

You'd see programs that enables you to convert some old vst into something that works in the mpc..

How is this NOT a thing yet?

Because the potential is insane!

Compared to other plugins they might sound cheap or rather simple, but they (A) do the trick and (B) don‘t use up much CPU performance, while (C) you still get lots of customization options and (D) it is well sufficient for sketching out a beat or song.

(E) I wouldn‘t use them in a serious mixing environment, reverbs need to sound natural. (F) You could still use them for sound design only, but (G) have you tried using delays while producing (not mixing)? They don‘t add so much muddiness like reverb does and won‘t clash with any of your sample‘s inherent reverb.
