LOOPer vs SAMPLer vs AUDIO TRACK

LOOPer vs SAMPLer vs AUDIO TRACK


What are the major differences between recording audio via:
1] sampler
2] looper
3] audio track
4] is there another way to record audio ???

The sampler is simple & functional but it cannot accommodate me leaving the screen. that sucks . . . . .

The audio track seems to be the best way to fill an audio slot in a beat you already have going with concrete start/end slots.

The LOOPER seems to be for resampling & looping. I wish it was easier to resample my drum loops running thru the XYFX. The roland MV made EZ work of this. I need to dig more into this.

Is the LOOPER the only way to resample ?
I find the interface clunky relative to the MV but if that’s what I gotta do, that what I will do . . . .

I sold my MV & MPC1K, so I’m committed to this machine. I haven’t used ableton in over 6 months but I haven’t sold my PUSH/Steinberg interface just in case I need to record 4-8 simultaneous audio tracks.

I’m sure after another year or 2, the LOOPer will feel like home b/c I won’t have anything else to compare it 2. I must say the MV felt natural after just 6 months but this MPC LIVE is clearly more powerful. To be honest, the biggest thing I need is more knobs/sliders; moving thru all the various screens/tools gets me lost sometimes. This summer, I plan to MIDI map a MPD32 or APC40 template. 8-16 knobs & 8 sliders should help me tame this beast . . . . .

You can do a bit of editing on the program level and flatten pad. However I’m not sure what you’re trying to accomplish. I mean if you’re resampling by through external effects than an audio track would be pretty straight forward. Now the XY stuff I don’t mess with a lot. The korg Kaoss pads are pretty cheap these days and would offer a ton of resampling and chopping options, but it’s just a thought as I do t know what you’re trying to do.

And I initially went out looking for a Live and they were sold out everywhere. I went for X and was glad because I wanted more knobs and buttons anyway. I didn’t want to be “forced” to menu dive.

Coming from the MV, I got used to mixdown mode where I could resample the outputs directly to my 40GB HDD. While this is clearly not possible with the MPC, I thought the audio tracks would allow resampling.


As far as I know, the only resample options are the sampler & looper. I find the sampler useless, since it stops resampling as soon as you change screens. Is there anyway to get the looper past 16 bars ??? I want to be able to record “mpc dj sets”. YES I am aware of the bounce tracks options but that is limited to that sequence. Does song mode allow bounce tracks with tempo changes ?

There’s an option to “Bounce Track to sample” and “bounce track to Audio Track”. Same for sequence. There’s also an option to export stems for the whole project to disk. It’s all in the manual. Use of the looper isn’t required.

When I go my audio tracks which have recordings from hardware synths/drum machines, I don’t see this option. I only see “save channel strip” which creates a XPM. I locked myself with just my MPC and manual, I’ve almost figured it out. Thanks seedy for the help


BTW – JOHNCLOD’s advice let me dig into the manual this weekend. I’m a Mid city 90s LA kid, I’m not phased by hard advice.

No hard and fast rules here but you can resample everywhere. Simply change what input your sampling from. Looper, sampler and audio track all allow this. I used to use audio tracks for my live playing... keys, bass, etc.
Sampler I used for things not synced to tempo.
Looper was for sequenced external hardware and usually where I would resample.

You don’t need to bounce audio tracks. Simply load it up on a pad or clip slot from the sample pool.

Edit: Not sure why you wouldn’t use an external device to record your set. Seems like you want to set it to record and then perform. I would use my phone, or iPad, or zoom recorder etc.
