Yeah, but Davis wants to trigger the MPC's sounds from the SP. The swing on the SP is really nice, but the pads on the MPC feel better than those plastic buttons on the SP.
Over here I just have the two synced, I sequence the MPC's samples in the MPC, and the SP's samples in the SP. When sampling I decide which sampler it's gonna go to - most drums go to the SP, and long samples and stereo things go to the MPC. The SP is the master, so I press play on that and everything starts. Just go to the sync page and set it to 'midi clock' on the port your SP is on. The SP sends midi clock out by default.
I like the simplicity and the swing of the SP's sequencer, but on the MPC I like that you have different tracks, and it's easier to erase a note. Using the two sequencers together works fine for me.
