Can you draw smooth automation curves in grid or clip mode?

I have an 8 bar loop that i need to give a smooth automation curve to, I've tried to do it with my fingers but the results where less than perfect. I've looked at the event view thing but I'm still pretty force green for that right now and I've tried it on the step editor but that would be to long to be practical. How much i would love vector curves for this task like on the ADSR envelopes located on the track edit page.

Yes, I'd certainly like to see nodes and splines or similar, maybe even straight lines. More options are good.

But recording things in with Q-links works fine, so it's a good option for now.

And I mostly just set the TC very fine and use my finger.
