Anyone here mix to tape?

I guess I forgot about nostalgia driving the marketplace, but there are some cheap units out there now.

Just thought it would be cool to mix individual sounds to get tape drive, then resample the sound, or have an external unit to run sounds through guitar pedals and resample the tape, or just run entire mixes to tape for some subtle/ aggressive distortion.

Me and my buddy used to use vcr because it was stereo, and the tapes were 8 hours long on EP. Some ghetto moves but it worked. We contained the masters for the mix sets on those tapes and ran off copies for ppl. Funny, i recently found one of those tapes and fawk it sounds good...

I have never been a vintage/hardware collector dude but I do believe every medium has a sound to it. The web has a hoard of people who swear by the Tascam portastudio line.

Sampling from vinyl to a low-grade sampler & then layering the sounds properly before you tracked them out

60s soul was based on
Recording to a ridiculously expensive 3-4 track recorder
These producers were obsessive about mics and amps,etc.

While we all use computers and the MPC/FORCE are essentially computers, it is still up to US to craft & develop a sound. A lot of plugins have a tape emulation but I suggest u get a real tape player if that is the “sound” you really want.

Yeah. I was hoping that someone here has had experience working with “modern” consumer level cassette machines.
Back in the day, so many cassettes to deal with, I still have lots of left overs.
I want to try using tape for creative sound processing and such.
I figured mixing down to tape and could be a workaround to the fact that the MPC one has so few inputs/outputs. Using an external tape deck to record sound from the MPC running into effect processors, then to tape, then resampling it back in could be a good way to use my guitar pedals and such.

I was asking about the cheap tape recorder in the first post. I’ve recorded to nice Tascam 246 (still miss it, the poor thing was stolen) but there are so many cheap tape decks now I just wondered if anyone had experience with them.

It seems like something that has a tape deck, speakers with an aux-in and a radio could be a fun tool to pair with an MPC.
