Hello there,

Recently I got a sustain pedal for my Midi Keyboard (M-Audio Axiom 25). I can program the pedal to send a Deferred Play command to my MPC Live. Which is handy when I want to record myself playing guitar because I can have both hands ready to play and then press start with my foot.

I would also like to be able to punch in and out of recording using the pedal, similar to pressing the Overdub button. This would be handy when using the pads to lay down drums incrementally on one track. When I send the MMC Record Strobe command the MPC goes in Rec-mode and notes are overwritten.

Is there a command I can use for overdubs? Or is there a setting I have overlooked? If so, I'll probably get a midi footswitch with multiple buttons. If not, I'll stick with what I have now.

As an aside, how does this work on the MPC X? Under "Preferences > Hardware" there are settings for Footswitch 1 & Footswitch 2. On page 81 the manual says "These determine how connected footswitches will work.". But doesn't state which options you can choose between. Can anyone with an X shed some light?

Thanks,
Conor

2.9.1 lists MMC options but nothing for “receiving” overdub.

What's more the MPC will send the same MMC command (Record Strobe) whether you press Rec or Overdub. The Midi specification doesn't distinguish between Record and Overdub. I was hoping there was a workaround, but I kinda new the answer tbh.

The MPC X options for footswitches look promising though. Thanks for the pics! Another reason for me to upgrade to the X. Now I just need to find some spare cash and a way to tell the wife

Some features from past mpc’s we were used to are missing. No deal breakers or brick wall stops for me tho, none of them stop me at all.
