My MPC X became the world's most expensive MIDI Controller

*yawn* Music is a just a job like any other. It's just music. I like to keep shit in perspective with this simple idea. Music is disposable pop art like the logo on your favorite fast food joint's to-go cup. To build up in our minds, that it's some how elevated us to where we've accomplished something important and awe inspiring or holy is the delusion of an insane artist.

Last I checked, the purpose of art is traditionally to express oneself, and the purpose of business is to make money. Certainly that doesn't mean that the two are exclusionary... but the vast majority of art does not exist to make money, and the vast majority of business is not to express oneself.

Where those two spaces overlap something magical can happen or something garbage can happen certainly, but to erroneously lump the two together as you have done seems like you've been breathing a little too much of your own gas and not giving enough credit to the sheer volume of cultural wealth that the arts provide, often at little to no financial benefit of the creator.

They were effectively claiming to own the rights to anyone performing a public domain Beethoven piece.

TBH I do find it difficult to see how they are going to claim on a single snare drum, I'm pretty sure contentID needs much more than 500ms of time to recognise audio fingerprints. Would assume it's a mistake and could (and should) be challenged.

What a Producer samples, is Public Knowledge. Im from the Old School, so I kinda understand how people feel about Whosampled "snitching". Thats a 90s way of thinking. I look at Whosampled as an Encyclopedia of History. When Whosampled Puts out what Record DJ Premier Sampled, That allows me to figured out and digest how he did it, To Perfect My Craft in Sampling!

Thats like getting Mad at History Books For telling us John Wilkes Booth Shot Abraham Lincoln in the Back of his Dome Piece!

Music is NOT a Secret For only the Creator to have tucked away in his memory! Whosampled actually pays Homage to Premier and other Producers. Gives Them Credit!

The snare I used was from the ‘Vinylistics’ CD that was released way back in the ‘90s. The original source was from a break I used to love juggling on the turntables called ‘Midnight Theme’ by Manzel

The fact that YouTube dinged me for that snare shocked the sh!t out of me. It also made me realize how deep the algorithms go. If it caught a singular snare, then it can catch a singular note or chord.

I also fear that the technology will eventually unmask layered and filtered samples using frequency extraction and that to me is dangerous.

People think sample clearance is an easy process and I don’t believe Tracklib is a solution. The artists relations manager from Tracklib has reached out to me several times with offers to use their service and I declined.

I don’t trust it.

‘WhoSampled’ sells their database that information is being used to hurt the culture and some of you are willing participants in the destruction of Boom Bap music and I refuse to rock with that.

I will be okay.

My composition, musicianship, and production skills are beyond sampling and as a business decision, it’s better for me.

Sampling is a blood sport for me, but I can demonstrate my niceness and build the legend of my musical legacy through consistently releasing quality material through 12-Bit Records.

I love sampling, but I don’t need it or the hassle…

This isn't a hobby for me.

I literally just spent close to 20 grand on a 12k/35mm camera, a rig, and some lenses this morning so I can shoot my own music videos so you guys will buy the vinyl, cassettes, and branded merchandise we're currently designing and preparing for sale.

So for me, both art and business are mutually exclusive because art is my business...

Owning the tools doesnt make you a good craftsman.

Fresh has posted enough material to show a high level of craftsmanship... so what is your point?

With all due respect, I’m not sure if I just walked into music enthusiast forum or the local gym, because there’s a ton of flexing going on. I mean it’s totally cool that this is your career, but it’s really not necessary. We all know you’ve got mad skills, man. No need to keep writing paragraphs of how awesome you are.
