Akai MPC Live 2 Retro battery issue

Do take it out once in a while though... it's great to sit out in a park or back yard and jam. Can get you in a different headspace for a few hours for sure

Because of this topic I'm running my live MK1 now on the battery for two days while using it heavily making beats, sampling and what not. I'm down to 32% after using for two nights in a total of 4 hours give or take. I find that pretty reasonable. Did AKAI get back to OP already?

No, I’m still waiting for a reply from Akai technical support. It’s been 3 days and still no reply.

Regarding the battery life you are getting, was that 2 hours each night in the two nights that you were using your Live MK1 that you were able to get 68% discharge in the battery?

As I stated here, I’m getting 4 hours 55 minutes battery life simply by leaving it on from 100% right down to 0% when my Live MK2 finally shuts down and this is with nothing connected and WiFi and Bluetooth switched off with screen brightness switched to Night and screen timeout at 1 minute.

imho....I think 4-5hrs is a Decent amount of Battery Power. I dont know if its because i have Busy Lifestyle with Kids/work, But 5 Straight Hours of Makin Beats on the Fly on Battery Power is Overkill for my life

When my Battery gets down to the point where it warns me that my Battery is low, I throw the Charger on it. Real simple! Im Too Old to stare at my MPC for 5 Straight Hours

Yea around 2 hours each night. Just using like I normally would. I don't use bt or WiFi. Screen is set to night.

Did some testing tonight.

I turned off WiFi, and used night mode for the screen, with the speaker at about 40% volume. My runtime was 5hrs and 5min.
To recharge the battery to 100% took 2 hours.

I thinks that’s very good considering the power and performance of the device.

Around 4:30 hours battery life here too MPC Live 1..That’s the expected behaviour (not AKAI’s obviously)..

I finally got a reply from Akai technical support and they say it’s normal for the battery to discharge between 20% and 23% every hour. However, I forgot to mention to them that this happens when my MPC Live 2 is on but idle but it probably doesn’t matter anyway.

I unplugged my Live original last night at 100%. IT didn't loose any charge over night (it holds a charge very well actually) and I've just got 4hrs use from 100% - 10%, which is what I expected. It's been like that since I bought it years ago.

Unless you're loosing charge while not using it, I don't think you've got an issue.

When you say "loosing charge while not using it" do you mean when the MPC Live is switched off?

I used to loose charge when my MPC Live was switched off but now for some reason my MPC Live is able to keep the charge to 100% when switched off.

The battery only starts discharging when I have it switched on using it or when its idle.

Sorry, my baaad. Yes, I meant when it's turned off. Sounds like you have a perfectly healthy beat maker to me.

Received my mpc live 2 retro yesterday, charged it up and measured the run down time (screen to dim 1 minute, 'night' mode). I got 5 and a half hours, that's literally just having it sat there unused. Took approx 2 hours to charge back up from empty.

That Is 30 minutes more than what I am getting from the battery on my Live 2 retro. I had the settings the same as you with screen to dim night mode and sat unused and I’m getting 5 hours.

Strange how you are getting 30 minutes more. So does this mean my Live 2 retro is defective after all? This is worrying.

I haven’t been using my Live retro 2 for 4 weeks. However, when I switched it off 4 weeks ago the battery was sitting at 100%. Now after 4 weeks I switched it on and the battery is sitting at 97%. So in the 4 weeks it’s been switched off it’s discharged by 3%.

I wouldn't worry about 30 minutes difference, I'm sure that's within manufacturing tolerances. And 3% discharge after 4 weeks is excellent, all lithium batteries lose small amounts of charge even when powered off.

I've sent the Live back as I didn't like the pad sensitivity, but the battery seemed fine, despite it arriving completely dead.
