my first problem is my buffer settings, when i record or playback it stops and the middle of a song and displays check play back engine. so i flip through the setting because i don't know the right settings . what should be my buffer size it has 0-8. Also i have playback and record settings 128,256,512,1000 and something. and then theres computer usage. does anybode have any ideas on what i'm doing wrong

You should leave your buffer setting to the default level which is 2....As far as the playback engine I use 256 or 512.....Start out at 256 first and if the playback sounds messed up bump it up to 512.......!

if you´re using mac the cpu should be set to around 80% if you´ve got a single processor. if you´ve got double processors put it to 99%.

well i´m not a pc user but my guess is that you should put the cpu usage to 80%. that will leave 20% to other programs you might run simultaneously.
good luck
