Hello,
I can't find anywhere on the Akai website to report bugs and suggestions. Is this the correct place to report it? Will the Akai engineers see it? Or where should I report it?
I recently bought an MPC One. This is a fantastic machine and it is truly remarkable what you get for your money nowadays! A friend of mine had an Akai S3000XL many years ago, and another friend had a large EMU sampler, and I had a large Kurzweil sampler, all of which were far more expensive than the MPC One today, and they only had a small fraction of the features. Unfortunately there are a few bugs and awkward procedures here and there in the MPC One.
I have updated to firmware 2.9.1
These are the bugs and suggestions:
- In the disk-browser, the play icon is confusing. If I press it while a sample is auditioning, it stops the playback, so maybe the icon should be a square instead during playback. It would also be nice if I could see the length of the sample in seconds, because I work with both short and very long samples. It would also be nice if I could see the waveform when auditioning the sound, and ideally also move the play-head so I can listen to different parts of the sample before I load it.
- In the sample-edit, I can change the timeline from sample-count to time or beats. Unfortunately this setting seems to reset by itself sometimes. I think it should be saved as a general setting for the machine, so it always uses the last setting I toggled. I also think the time in seconds should display minutes e.g. 1:23:456 for 1 minute, 23 seconds and 456 milli-seconds, instead of 83:456 as it displays now.
- In the sample-edit, I can use the q-links to scroll and zoom on the horizontal axis. There is a q-link free and it would be nice if I could zoom on the vertical axis as well.
- In the sample-edit, when I zoom out it seems to jump to the start-point of the sample. I think it should just zoom out where I am currently located in the sample. The same for zooming in, I don't think it should center on the start-point, but just the middle of the screen.
- In the sample-edit, I often cut out smaller sections of very large samples, but sometimes when I use the assign-button from inside the sample-edit page, it doesn't seem to assign the sample to the correct program that I select, and instead it assigns the sample to the current program on the active track. It also seems to assign to the wrong pad sometimes. I'm not sure what is going wrong but it is very confusing when it happens, because suddenly I have strange sample assignments in my programs.
- In the sample-assign page from the main menu, it would be nice if I could e.g. double-tap a sample to open the sample-editor. Especially if I am using slices of other samples, I can't seem to find a way to open them in the sample-editor again, if I want to make minor adjustments.
- I like to use tracks of different lengths. This is very tricky to do on the MPC One, because the tracks are not individually free-running but always sync to the loop of the sequence. This makes it tricky to set the lengths of the different tracks and the overall sequence, so they all loop correctly without some tracks being abruptly restarted. It is also a bit annoying that the track-length is set in beats instead of bars:beats.
- I would really like to be able to double / half length individual tracks instead of the whole sequence. Often I will start with a 1-bar loop on a track, then I want to double it and make minor adjustments, and then double it again and make minor adjustments, to make some variations in the different bars.
- It would be really nice with a trigger-probability. I have a small Elektron sample-player and it is a really great feature because it can very easily create variation in the loops so they don't sound so repetitive. I don't use any of the more advanced Elektron trigger-conditions, and I imagine it's a very small number of people who use those, but the trigger-probability is incredibly useful and probably very easy to implement.
I hope this was the right place to write these bugs and suggestions. The MPC One is really a fantastic machine with some annoying quirks that I hope the Akai engineers can easily fix.
