Yamaha Motif or Asr-10?

Which one do you guys prefer as your board?

depends what your using it for. As a sampling unit, I prefer the ASR10. If you're looking for a sound source that has that 'real' acoustic sound and a variety of synth sounds then the Motif is a good bet.

Yeah i agree. I Know you can sample with the motif, but i've heard that the Asr is more user friendly. I have an Mpc 2000 xl, but im thinking about getting an Asr for sampling and using the xl as my sequencer/drums.

Im selling a motif BTW 6 classic max mem 2 dvds and smart card and reader

man i had an asr-10 and for me personally it didn't feel right it took too long to use effects and it was just plain unreliable, sometimes things didnt save sometimes it couldnt access the scsi. If you go to the asr-10 board most people are just complaining about their glitches.

if you don't need the multisampling of the ASR-10 and just need an insane amount of great sounds then i would look at the new Yamaha Motif Rack ES version. yes, they have ES'd the rack. nice.

Werd, I recommend the ES rack highly. ASR is probably one of the best if not THE best sampler but the OS is messy from what I heard and the sequencer is glitchy also... if you're gonna sequence it with the mpc it shouldn't be too bad but if you want sounds go ES all the way

you've got the XL do you need another sampler, get a cheap rack (akai s950) 12bit goodness. the asr will only slow you down trying to conquer a new machine and dealing with its unreliablity.

You guys kill me with the asr-10 unreliability thing. ... How many of you actually own one? Not trying to flame, but ive had my asr for 4 years and my 2kxl for 1. MY asr has crashed once in 4 years, my MPC ? more then 10 in one year.

im unfamiliar with the akai s950, what exactly can you do with it???

I wasted alot of time with the ASR. Parts are so hard to get. I will admit the sampler sounds absolutely awesome. But the sequencer and syncing it to an MPC was a nightmare. It did work but was very painful. It takes AGES to load decent samples/instruments and the scsi sucked hard. Its just plain old. If you wanna do those RZA type 36 chambers style beats, its cool. Or if you have alot of time to work out how to use it to its FULL potential and work around the glitches. I sold mine and bought a Korg triton extreme 88. Its a helluva lot betta for me. The motif range sounds awesome for replicating real instruments, but the Triton extreme rips for that electronica type stuff.

hemoglobin I have owned an asr and mine was a real POS. I had error messages all the time. Plus problems with using the scsi drive and saving sounds and then my floppy crapped out on me plus parts are expensive and hard to find. It is no secret that the asr is unreliable and glitchy. the thing is so outdated. But by all means those who want it pay the high prices should get it.
