So,

Not often I post in all these years, but after v2.10 dropped and the discussion about class compliance started, I saw that that thread could become very long and dense.
I was interested in what actual interfaces worked...or did not.
Really, really simple.

So I started a thread, I asked if anybody who had tested an interface could just list it, say if it's working or not.
So anybody wanting to do a quick check, could see if their own interface was in there without trawling through a massive discussion thread.
I also asked if anybody had specific questions or was seeking to comment could take it to the discussion thread.
Simple. Easy. Yes ?

F*CK NO.

Anyway, I had a massive rant ready, I mean an epic of mythological proportion, but it's all just a waste of time.
When it comes down to it, asking people to control their brain farts is a lost cause, so I give up.
Off out to the local brew shop for a strong cup of Joe.
Peace y'all.
Smiley face follows.
:)

Maintaining a clean list could be possible, if the first message is continuously edited. But editing is not allowed after a few minutes?

What comes to the "I give up" thing - you didn't actually expect things to work like that? :) If you take up an impossible task, you'll go crazy. Boil the ocean with matches, or something.

People do not read, and they do not understand. Not user manuals, not forum posts. Trying to get a group of random musicians from all over the world to collectively build a nice clean list ... using THIS forum? Wrong tool for the job. It's a discussion forum, and you're trying to ask people to not discuss.

Even if editing was allowed, and if the first post contained a completely perfect and clean list, people would post messages like "does anyone know if my interface is supported please". It doesn't matter what text you write, you cannot stop people from posting messages. Whatever CAN be done, WILL be done, by a group of random people. If there's a Submit button, they will press the button. If there's a text box that accepts random text, they will type random text in it. This is not sarcasm, that's stating what should be obvious.

Edit: see, someone with the required technical means did what needed to be done.

Few points.

1. If I had the rights as a moderator, I would have edited the thread and made it a sticky. You'll have to give me the benefit of the doubt that I understand forums and how they work, at least as well as you do, so...anyway, but thanks to the mod for stepping in. Plaudits.

2. Lovely clear statement at the top asking nicely to keep it as a list and use the other thread for the rest, simple, respectful, and hopefully helpful.

3. There can be other types of posts apart from pure "discussion", (see the Announcements section etc etc), sort of obvious, so...

Anyway, had a lovely Columbian roast, smooth.

Glad the roast was smooth...

Just a suggestion, but would a google spreadsheet or something similar top of post be worth pointing people to, and then have something a bit more organized with columns for device, input/output, support, notes, etc...?

That would be nice if possible, over to the mod's ?

Unfortunately some people go back to the first post of a topic they started and delete it and replacing it with the words 'Problem solved, thanks'. Or people just mass delete their old posts for the hell of it. Hence the restrictions, which unfortunately means repeatedly updating a first post with useful content isn't possible, except for admins/mods.

Your points
- 1: I tried to say: why do you need to be a moderator to edit even your own posts. (edit: MPC-Tutor added about this below)
- 2: it doesn't work, no matter how nicely you ask. It's like herding cats, you cannot do it, it's in their nature. Maybe in an extremely discipline-valuing culture like Japan it's possible to have a sign like "please take your trash home", and then most people just magically comply. Somewhere else, signs don't help and they have to install trash bins, and even then it people don't care. By the way, you didn't even make the reference to the other thread a clickable link.
- 3: it could be made to work if you had the required technical means to enforce different types of threads, for example by removing unwanted types of messages. I don't think I've ever seen a forum where each OP would become sort of like the moderator of that thread.

I can understand that. But it still feels like throwing the baby out with the bath water. If the folks around here are prone to going on mass-deletion sprees ... aargh. Artists can be emotional and touchy.

I know you're restricted by how the forum software is coded, but maybe if you could give a few well-behaving members more rights? Having the right to edit one's own posts doesn't feel like a terribly powerful extra privilege, if it's "opt-in".

Even the list thread already got weird. I tested the Steinberg UR44 and found it to work (video evidence showing it working with the MPC One) - having a dedicated and documented physical CC MODE switch, you'd expect it to - but then DokBrown says it doesn't work, and even that it's "not class compliant"... having received a message from Steinberg's support saying it's not class compliant. What?

It's a sticky...and they're still doing it. :WTF:
By HouseWithoutMouse Mon Aug 09, 2021 4:28 pm
It's the expected thing to happen. They do it because they are humans, the system does not physically prevent them from posting, and there are no 24/7 moderators on alert removing the posts as they appear.

Hah try getting details and info in order at Gearspaceslutz (the main MPC Live thread there is near 1000 pages now)! This place is a walk in the park compared to some forums. Its going to happen though, its just human nature.
