Non-quantized Control Voltages?

Hi everybody,

having read the Manual (MPC Live II 2.10), the answer seems to be "No":

Is there a way to record (or even just output) arbitrary CVs which are not representing pitch-quantized notes?
For instance, I would like to use the pads or a CV track to output voltages for Filter Cutoffs, VCA/ADSR responsivness, LFO Rates and the like.
Like a "7-row sequencer" + GATE. Or can I convert recorded MIDI controller data to Control Voltages?
Anything like that?

You can turn Timing Correct off, and see if that gets you in the right ballpark for what you want.

You can use the MOD WHEEL option for your CV program. If you happen to have the channel strip visible, you won't be able to see the MOD WHEEL and VELOCITY options, so hide the channel strip by pressing the eye icon.



Then if you have Timing Correct switched off you can record some modulation wheel data that isn't quantized to note resolution. When the track has modulation CC data, Modulation automatically appears as a selectable option for the velocity/automation lane in Grid editor.

You could also add Modulation by selecting Add New --> Track --> MIDI CC --> 1: Modulation, and then you can draw in modulation CC curves. If TC is off, the drawing resolution seems to be set by the view zoom ratio.



If you look at the track in the Step Sequencer, the same CC data is shown according to the step size, which may be confusing. The full resolution data is there, but if you touch the bars in the Step Sequencer, the CC data for that step is replaced by a time-quantized data block, e.g. 1/16th note.



By the way, the Grid editor seems to default to Velocity every time I go somewhere else, and I have to re-select Modulation every time, which is a bit annoying. Can it be made to remember the previously used automation type?
