Problem when saving drumbreak after chopping

Hello everyone,

Recently I got my mpc one and as a way to build a archive of usable drumsounds and learning my way around the sample editor I decided to sample the drumbreaks I got on vinyl and chop them up. So far, so good.

But then I realizes something strange. After I sliced the samples into new wavfiles and made a program of them, I use the first unused pad in the program to save the original wavfile of the complete drumbreak in question (haven't figured out a good way to save them otherwise...). The idea of also having the original drumbreak is that so I could listen to it quickly while searching for suitable drumsounds.

When I saved everything I noticed that some of the original drumbreak wavefiles (not the slices, but the total break) seem to have a very different bpm, which my old 2500 never had.

Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong, or how I can fix this?

Maybe try removing all chop markers from the original sample. If you want to keep those, duplicate the original, put it on H16 (or wherever you like) and remove those slices from the duplicate. Depending on the program conversion you selected these markers might provide an „autowarp“ or „patch phrase“. I usually use „new program with new samples“ and I‘ve never experienced this.

Thanx for your reply ! Didnt have time until today to try it out. Deleting the markers didnt help, but setting the correct bpm on the mainloop and all the chops did the trick so it seems. The only weird thing (atleast to me) is that the playback when auditioning a sample the speed is still affected by the bpm of the project.

Do you also have that when doing it your way, or am I'm doing something wrong? Is there a way to get that bpm stuff out of your wavesamples? I love the ideas behind this machine but coming from a legacy workflow its stuff like this that's really new to me

If you have a drum loop open in the sample editor, and then you slice it up, and then Convert > ...which conversion process are you choosing?

Like 83dude says, seems like you must be making a patched phrase for your sample to be affected by changing the project BPM. But, from your description you say that the original sample is changing BPM, which is weird.

Yeah it's the last part that really confuses me. Gonna record a new break after work and chop it up the way 83dude says and see if that fixes the problem. If so, I just start again with the whole sampling and chopping stuff I guess.

Fixed! The box 'warp' was ticked in audition settings. After unchecking it, everything worked fine.

Ah okay, yeah used to be there alot. Great forum tho, lots of practical information - en ook handig om vragen die je in het Engels niet goed geformuleerd krijgt in het Nederlands te kunnen stellen.
