I was just commenting on the presenting of Hype as a good piano plugin. If I need a piano, I'll first try auto-sampling stuff from somewhere. I decided over a decade ago already that I don't need to buy any more piano sample libraries.

The problem with piano is that any sampled keygroup takes a lot of ram, if you need a serious pro piano sound.
I also tried the expansions that was suggested by Mpc Tutor, they sound quite good but they are heavy.
I think the best solution is just a digital piano connected to audio or midi.

obviously u can use electric for some great piano sounds; also there are some good pianos and mallets in hype too, but again i have not been able to use those sounds in my tracks just yet, but am sure i will

Piano suite instruments use around 100mb ram each, that's for 4 layer multisampling, that's just about the best we could do without impacting sound. If they put better envelope options in there we'd be able to optimise much more

Because I prefer the EP on Hype.
Eletric is good for me to make percussive pitched sounds, it shines on that.

Have hooked up a Sustain pedal, or drawn in cc64. that helps long notes sing.

My first impression of Hype wasn't that positive, but it came along with other synths I was more positive about, the Odyssey and Solina. I wanted to give it some more time, when I was less distracted. Having now spent that time I decided to remove it from my SD card. It doesn't suit me I don't like it sonically, and I'm not the keen on the format. Once I have stripped off the FX some seem to have reverb baked in. There not being a set layout, means investing time into why a sound is behaving a certain way, and not knowing if it'sfixed feature or not, means is time consuming. I'd rather spend that time elsewhere.

The pianos do have a nice tone, but no dynamics, and Hype doesn't respond to Sustain. The expansion F9 sample pianos do respond to sustain, but only the Grand is in multisample layers . In fact it seems the only Multisample layered instrument I can find (so far), so may end up being the only one I'd use. That wasn't so much the case before Solina arrived. I have a Yamaha Reface CP, so some sounds the Electric doesn't, have Clav and Electric Grand are covered.

So far the synths I am most happy with and spend more time on are the Odyseey, Solina, Tube, and Electric.

The Bassline has just fallen victim of being surpassed by the Odyssey, otherwise I was pretty happy wit it.

I don't know about the Mellotrom. I think it sounds good, I'm just not sure it's suits me, it's had me listening to 4Hero for inspiration, and that's never a bad thing. Maybe it will blend well with Solina, I hope so.

I thought Tube had some promise, but everything is drowned in FX, and with turning them off clumsy, but some of the presents reveal some nice warm or tangy sounds.

So 4 synths to spend my time on, and a great range to sounds available with them. seems pretty good to me.so I've no need for Hype, it doesn't live up to i.

I found the Hype great especially for percussive or dynamic sounds. Odyssey is cool also but more floppy IMO.

I rediscovered Tubesynth also which can be interesting if you take time to dive in.

I still ignore Synthbass and would like to exchange it against a FM synth pluggin if possible Please Akai

I tried it once and then forgot about it, not flexible, very limited.
At the end drum programs with high quality samples are more then enough for me, more inserts and sends, more sound sculpting.

I found the Drum synth very interesting and I use it most of the time. Of course it can’t do everything but if you’re in Electro it is a great pluggin.
It could be cool to be able to play it chromatically.
The interface also should be improved. I’d liked to go directly to the parameters page of a specific instrument (one of the six) by hitting its pad like for drumkits. And of course more than six instruments in a kit would be great. With new models (an Elektron user would say “machines”) if possible.

More often than not it‘s the processing you apply afterwards that makes a sound lush. I‘ve had whole productions using the exact same Reason standard bass preset from Subtractor, and I only changed the amp emulation and/or saturation and dynamic processing in the FX chain after that.

Before skipping any plugin, try using that, although I have to admit the MPC is really lacking a proper amp emulation - the Distortion Amp from Akai is not my cup of tea at all, but the AIR Tube Driver is a valid alternative.

Drum Synth is much more suited to synthesized drum sounds that are dynamic - you simply cannot get the kind of sound sculpting in a Drum Program, even with high quality samples of synthetic drums IMHO. Drum Synth does a pretty realistic Roland TR-909, among others (and sure - you can use samples, but you can't change the sonic quality/dynamics of those samples like you can on Drum Synth). And Drum Synth actually has an FM synth module (albeit limited). Horses for courses, and all that. I realize it might not be everyone's cup of tea.

Sure, as I said is good to have different solutions.
I know what you say about drum synth vs drum programs, I made my personal tests and at the end I just go on with drum programs.
You have also good ways to work with drum samples, amp and filter envelopes can change it quite strongly, then you have inserts per pad, and other options on sample edit.
I just don't like the sounds they put on drum synth and there is no chance to have more, the interface is not made comfortable, I find it limited.
But it might be useful one day, who knows, that's why I say it's good we have different solutions.
And it's good someone could say the opposite and like drum synth and use it as the main weapon for rythms.
I can say I like that and I don't like that but all Mpc plugins are definitely useable.
By the way, am I the only one who always finds Bass synth slightly out of tune?
