Samples - added silence at start and end

Hey people,

Sorry if this has already been answered, but I don’t even know what to search for!!!!

I have the Live. Latest firmware.

I’ve been making my samples in logic. Trimming them to the exact length I need, etc.

I have an SSD inside my live, so I connect to the computer, drag over the samples to the MPC.

When I go into sample editor on the MPC, there has been some silence added at the beginning and end of EVERY track. The amount added changes from sample to sample.

I get problems especially when I use a sample that maybe intentionally has silence at the start/end. Because it’s really tricky to know how much silence to chop out.

If it helps, I’m using the MPC in live situations with a live band. Playing keys and triggering clips with stuff like horns and the like.

Experienced with DAWs but an absolute noob with MPC.

Far as I'm aware, there is no way that the MPC is magically going to add silence to a file/sample that you have just dropped on to your SSD. Something else must be happening here...

In Logic, you must be exporting it with tails. Is that possible?

Logic is the culprit.

This is a commonly known issue in Logic. After stopping playback, it keeps it‘s audio buffer to provide seemless playback if you start again. As soon as you export a sample, first the (for you obviously empty) buffer gets played back before the actual sample plays.

I‘ve worked in telephone marketing for quite some time using Logic to arrange those call centre audio. Every time I had to open the bounce in Wavelab and remove the beginning of the bounced file.

Try playing a loop, press stop while it plays and then export something. You‘ll see some audio at the start then.
