Hi. I have a launchcontrol XL that I have successfully mapped with faders controlling subgroup volumes, and knobs controlling two sends and a filter on each track. It works great - I can easily route programs to subgroups and have fingertip live control over all eight subgroups. Now I need to apply this to alot of existing projects....... I'm a bit technical (and nosey) so I popped open the .xpj file (which is xml, thank you) and found the section that handles midi mapping, I believe.

Is there any reason that I cannot copy this into existing projects .XPJ files, replacing any existing mapping?

Thanks in advance.

Hello i did this and it works. You copy your midi mapping in the .xpj file ...

you can also copy the routing section !!! Send / Returns Fx / presets etc... I use this to merge or reorganize projects... Just backup everything and check it seriously after. as you can easily get wrong on pasting. I do work on a copy of project from my sd card... If everything is good, I delete the previous one : ) Lot of time gained.

never thought of putting filter on submixes, I was using the 4 sends on my controller, but can be very good to assign some low CPU effects on it also !!

I use :

Sub 1 : KICK
Sub 2 : Snare Claps
SUB 3 : Stereo hats and other percussions
SUB 4 : BASS
SUB 5 Keyboards
SUB 6 Keyboards 2
SUB 7 and 8 anything extra ( sample /loops/ percussions / audio tracks monitoring synths)

Send 1 : Reverb (or external reverb stomp)
Send 2 Delay
Send 3 : Mangling ( modulation + Distortion)
Send 4 : Ring mod or Phaser.

So big gain of time to copy the routings settings also

I use the 6 outputs to route everything to the sound engineer for stage amplifications ( when we played live, once upon a time :)

I'm curious about you workflow with the launchpad !

I'm just working it out. I use a launch control, not a launchpad. But I like to throw faders. I haven't gone live with the MPC, I was Ableton until it crapped out on me
mid set. Swore it off forever (but its siren song keeps calling). I work with stems made in the studio, and live midi sequencing of hardware (or sometimes software) synths. I realized that you can have two clip programs and map the program volume to the same fader, but with one mapping reversed. That will allow to xfade between the two programs. I think, but am not sure yet, that you can also send each of the clips (bass, drums, comps, and perc in my case) to a subgroup, and then map other faders to the levels of the subgroups. The xfader can cross between two programs, and you still get control of the levels of the stems, but don't have to map each one to an fader.

Perhaps they'll allow Global Midi user settings, like they do in the software one day. No idea why they didn't do it in the first place. :smoker: As far as the X-Fader. I posted this in September and it still works well, but it would be great if MIDI MAP settings could be saved in standalone and recalled to any project.

The best option I found is to use MIDI LEARN and an external midi device with faders or knobs. Below is a photo of how I have it mapped. Map the same knob or fader to both track 1 and 2 and make sure you click flip on one of them. This way when you turn the knob or move the fader, the volumes on each track will move in the opposite direction.

Thanks guys for this very inspiring "crossfade" workaround for mixing !! I don't use clip programs but i would make use of this bipolar mapping on effects parameters ! Thanks

So doing it on a computer, not standalone.

Thanks for the quick reply.... Im just trying to set up the mpc as a sound source with an external sequencer... and it would be nice to load up maps. but Ill do a bunch of blank projects

i jut started playing arround with my beatstep pro and controlling volumes and mutes with it.
So these midi mappings are saved per project and not globaly?
Do I have to remap everything each reboot or for each project?
And I cant only set mappings for already in use tracks?
I would love to have a template that maps 16 Faders to the 16 midi track per default.

You could do that. Configure that in an empty project, save it and make it the startup template.
