I have an MPC One and I'd like to trigger the next sequence using a midi controller. Say if sequence 1 is currently playing, I'd like to set sequence 2 to be up next with a push of a switch, then once sequence 2 is playing, pushing the button again would put sequence 3 in the queue..

I'm a little confused about the purpose of the MIDI control mode 'hardware' section. I see that I can choose 'Next Seq', choose 'MIDI Input', and set the channel and CC, but this doesn't make the sequence change. I have verified that my controller is sending the right CC on the right channel. I know that my controller is working because I can send an MMC 'Play' and that functions as expected.

I have figured out how to send program changes to change the MPC's sequence. However, I don't want to have to have one button for each sequence, I just want one button to move from sequence 1 to 2 to 3 and so on...

Isn’t next seq after the current one plays, not “sudden” (older mpc’s use sudden in local menus, idk about external)?

Yep, I think the Next Seq usually follows at the end of the current one, or there are options on screen for 'next bar' and 'immediate'.

But I'm looking to have a footswitch controller (Boss FC200) select seqs. I'll be happy to have them set for seq1-10 if it's not possible to map 'Seq Up/Down' to say the Bank Up/Down switches on the unit. (This is all for standalone mode, I think there used to be more options for tethered & that might still be true.)

I understand this needs to be done via Program Change messages. Before I delve into figuring it out, is there an idiot guide to this anywhere? Or at least any top tips? And with the most recent firmware, do these settings have to be set per-project or can they be global so they are 'set and forget' for any project you open?

Ha, I'm such an idiot! Although I've been using midi variously for many years, I've never actually bothered looking into program change commands & assumed it would be about as complicated as writing sysex commands for my JD-Xi. Googled 'guide to midi program change' and figured within about 10 seconds that it's a piece of piss!

The Boss unit effectively gives me 10 sequence launch buttons per bank and I've set up the CTRL button as a stop (MMC). The pedal defaults to CC7 (volume) which means if I select a track I might want to bring in and out, I can do that hands-free as well.

Great to have all this hands-free, also as a bonus I can switch sequences and keep whatever other screen open on the MPC.
