It puts the mpc into update mode, if you have a valid firmware image on the root of a usb or sd card it will automatically run the firmware installer.

Ah right thanks for clarifying. do you by any chance know of a way to reset the MPC completely? One of the guys here said I should hit you up on here but this thread came up before I had a chance to. I'm having errors with the factory stuff, on the internal storage, disappearing from the browser whenever I start a new project.

Akai support did get back to me but they've completely misunderstood the issue so I have to go through the whole process again.

That is how. it wont reset your settings, but that will reinstall the rom and turn a semi-bricked mpc into a working mpc.

Files disappearing and stuff sounds like some kinda whacky file system problem. maybe not remounting the partition before the mpc software starts. do you have any sd or usb cards plugged in? take em all out and see if you have any issues with your internal then. It might just be that the service that loads the file systems (every single time you click new project) is crapping out and cascading.

if that changes it, then suspect a dying file system on one of your sd or usb devices.

Thanks for the help man, its appreciated!, as an MPC noob its sometimes hard to tell if I've run into a bug or whatnot.

If I take the SD out, this issue doesn't happen when starting a new project, then if I put it back in, the SD content loads fine. At this point if I start a new project, the internal factory stuff vanishes from the expansions browser. Strange that it works ok at boot time, but not when starting a new project afterwards. Booting with the SD in, everything loads fine, can load an initial template/project/empty with no problems but then starting a new one from there makes the same error happen.

I've tried different SD cards and the problem is still there, so I figured I need to reset the MPC. There seems to be more than just the firmware though, the diagnostics show 8gb internal storage.

if your sd card is named "internal-sd" it will cause issues. chances are yours is named like ####-#### though.

you're using the stock akai firmware? no custom firmware? not tampered with its guts at all?

The SD cards have normal names so that's not a problem. I downloaded the firmware from the akai website, I'm literally brand new to MPC world, I didn't even know there was custom firmware out there for the latest machines. Still learning it really so I don't think I'm ready for that right now.

I did see that someone else has mentioned this in the bugs thread a month ago. The MPC seems to look for the new synth content on the SD straight away, so maybe it's going wrong along the way. Weird though, I can load my own template from the browser with no errors, but not using the 'new' or 'user template' onscreen buttons. no one else seems to have noticed too which is weird if it is a bug.

Thanks for the input, I've been thinking that my internal storage is faulty but maybe im just jumping the gun on that :smoker:

Fek it could be who knows, you can clear all settings by pressing shift + menu to go to the settings then down on the bottom right hand side there's an option to reset settings. that will clear the mpc software's configuration file. worth a try.
