Akai FORCE and Yamaha MODX (Montage too) - help needed...

I have an issue making work my Yamaha MODX6 (2.52) with Akai Force (3.1.1).

I've tried using USB and/or MIDI (5 pin to jack) and no success.
All I can do is to record as an audio clip when synth is connected to the Force by audio cables (L&R). I want to use just one cable and be able to record midi (sounds coming from Yamaha into Force sequencer).

I've dive into this issue - checking other forums, YouTube, changing multiples settings (on both sides- Omni issue, Zone Master ON, single channel MIDI Mode, monitors on Force, preferences), making sure my cables works fine, etc. I really don't know what I am doing wrong.

COULD someone please please post steps how properly connect (and set up) Akai FORCE with Yamaha MODX synthesizer ?

Did you first ensure that the MODX's audio interface was set to class compliant mode? I believe that's not the default, although I may be wrong. I've heard that the MODX (I don't actually own one) will operate well with Linux, so I would expect that it should interact well with the Force.

In principle, everything should flow correctly over USB. It's probably just a matter of configuration.

Yes, I see others on YT jamming on Force and MODX - configuration can't be so difficult...

1. via USB “To Host” to either a computer (using the Yamaha Steinberg USB driver) or to an iOS device (iPad/iPhone)
2. via 5-pin MIDI connection (MIDI IN on AKAI, MIDI OUT on synth)
3. Use MODX single-channel MIDI mode.
4. Use multi-channel MIDI mode with Zone Master ON and setup the PART Zone settings for MIDI Transmit Ch = OFF for all channels except one.
5. hardware MIDI Channel filtering - Kenton MIDI processor, extra cost!


Still no luck..


AS for now I can:
1. On PLUGIN track - Use MODX as midi keyboard controller ( for "Hype" synth)
2. On AUDIO track - Use MODX to record audio clip
3. On MIDI track - nothing is happening (volume meter is responsive when I hit keyboard buttons on MODX)
4. On DRUM track - nothing
5. On KEYGROUP - nothing
6. On CV - nothing (obviously)

OK, on MIDI track you should be able to see something at least.

Try going into the track configuration (off the top of my head, double-tap on the track header box), and check your MIDI in/out settings, channel and so on. If you're using USB, is the MODX visible as a MIDI controller? What are you seeing?

(It's hard to debug this stuff blind without even having a MODX to do a comparison, so I'm mostly just offering hints on where I'd go and what I'd look at.)

If number one works then its working fine. Its a setting on your midi track in the MPC that's not set correctly. Is the track set to the correct input? Armed?

Thanks for looking into it, yes sir - it's armed, configuration wise - I've tried multiple combinations (different channels, input, monitors)..

I'm hoping someone with those 2 amazing machines will share their settings

Did you ever figure this out? I am using an iConnect Midi4+ as a midi hub. But I can't get my Montage 6 to play the sounds on my Force. I know the midi 4+ is a whole other device in the equation, but it's recognizing my Montage 6; but not the Force. So I can't get any midi to go in or out of the Force as of now. I haven't even made it to the Force recognizing my Montage audio via midi.

smh, so frustrating and of course Akai NEVER answers their calls.

The MPC/Force cannot set the sample rate and bit depth, so you need to do that from a computer.

If you can, I would try setting the audio interface to 44.1khz and 16 bit depth on a desktop first, and then see if it works better with an MPC/Force.
