My MPC One has defective pads after all

For reference, in the two weeks I've had my MPC One I have been having intermittent issues with pads double triggering. It improved with some settings but never went completely away.

Today I wasn't getting any double triggering but encountered a new issue. I was playing with aftertouch and set pad sensitivity to max and threshold to min. Now when I press a pad on the bottom row, other pads activate too (eg. if I press pad 4, pad 2 plays too).

So I guess I have to go through the return process and hope the vendor doesn't give me too much trouble. I am not sure if I will be able to test a new unit in the store or just exchange and hope.

Has anyone else had a similar issue with the pads? Is this a common issue for brand new MPCs?

Not really and AKAI is pretty good with their return policy. You shouldn't have to worry.

No, it's not common, and it certainly shouldn't be happening on your MPC. Return it to where you got it immediately as defective and exchange it for a new one.

Drumming style comes into account too.. dont rest your fingers on the pads incase thats a habit for you. Just stab the buttons you want and get off of them. Sometimes mine sends double triggers but its because im being a lazy finger drummer and sometimes do what I just said not too do lol. They are sensitive pads the slightest touch equates to input.

I can actually place the flat of my fingers on top of the pads and finger drum by just varying the pressure (Full Level on) and it won't double trigger... until it happens to double trigger. And then there is playing synths with aftertouch, where you have to leave your finger on the pad and distinguish between initial impact and subsequent pressure. Double triggers don't happen noticeably more or less in those cases than they do when finger drumming normally.

I have tried many combinations of playing style and pad settings and it will always happen at some point. Only difference is they seem to happen less if I am hitting the pads hard. It is also important to note that I can't cause it to happen on purpose reliably, no matter the playing style.

I had got to the point where double triggers were pretty rare when finger drumming, but they can also happen when playing the synths, which requires a different playing style (it can really mess up the result depending on your synth settings) , or when using the pads for track muting (so a track is muted and instantly unmuted), or entering sequences in Song Mode (really annoying if they happen there).

All in all I read what I could find on it and spent plenty of hours testing to rule out that it was just playing style. Based on the double triggering alone, this isn't a machine you would feel confident performing live with (unless playing glitch only ).

Now that I discovered this new problem there is no point experimenting any further. Before that, double triggers did seem to happen more on the bottom row, and while playing around with sensitivity settings I also found out that pad 2 is noticeably less responsive. All this confirms that unfortunately there is an issue with my unit.

Definitely ship it back then. That's a piss off.

my mpc one's pad 1 after about velocity 64 starts triggering pad 2. Yet my pad 3 triggers pad 1 at about same velocity! Someting with tact switches, i believe. Has been bugging me for note repeat playing and recording. I have tested specifically at full velocity and note repeat all pads, pad 1 and 3 seem to be the only buggers.
