Song mode changing my tempos

In 'song mode' all the BPMs are changed from 140 to a variety of tempos. Any clue why - and how to fix this?

Pg. 51 of the ancient book of knowledge v2.10.1 that no mere mortal shall ever read:

"Important: Each sequence has its own tempo, while the project itself may use a different master tempo. The BPM
value for each sequence may be different from the master tempo. As long as playback is set to follow the master
tempo, each sequence’s individual tempo will be ignored. By default, each project is set to use the sequence tempo,
which you set back in the Creating a Drum Sequence chapter. We recommend tapping the Seq/Mst button at the
top of the screen (so the button displays Mst) and entering a master tempo to ensure all sequences use the same
tempo."
