Midi Learn - Midi Program Problems

Hi guys been struggling with this one for a few days and can’t find an answer anywhere.

I’ve been mapping some faders on my midi keyboard to control program volumes and I’ve set up a CC to control a Midi Program volume that is assigned to a Minilogue xd via standard midi cable (not USB).

Now the problem I’m having is that the fader is affecting the Midi Track volume of whichever Track is active at the time. So if I scroll through Tracks in Main View it affects whichever is selected rather than what it’s assigned to in Midi Learn.

Does anyone know if this is a common issue due to settings somewhere? I’ve tried a few different things and can’t seem to figure it out.

Yeah does sound somewhat similar but I’m only sending midi CC and from what I can tell this isn’t affected by the track midi settings (eye icon and specifying midi channel etc).

I’m going to set up a new project from scratch later and see if it has the same behaviour. Hopefully it’s not a bug but I have been seeing a lot more since upgrading in terms of unexpected crashes which weren’t a thing at all previously.

This isn't normal behavior. Curious what your midi/sync settings are. Need more details about your setup too.

I don’t think I’ve got anything too crazy going on but I’m not that confident in understanding midi control settings that well so hopefully it is something I’ve done.

I’ve got a Launchkey mk3 set to track and control as well as a roland TR8 set to control only and mapped to drum program volumes and other parameters.

I send midi over usb to most things but my minilogue is connected via the mpc midi out because I was having issues with it sending clock back to the mpc via USB.

Hopefully this is the sort of info that would help figure out what’s going on. Really appreciate the help.

if you change the cc to volume on the controller itself it will affect all programs. if you use midi learn to map the selected program's volume you'll get the correct action out of it.

if you are using midi learn but the problem persists try changing the cc's on the controller itself to something else. maybe that one knobs cc is actually set to *volume* since your device conforms to the commonly used cc settings. then try midi learn again to confirm. here is a spec sheet of cc's.

if the fader in question is mapped to 0x07 for an address that's your "problem". Personally i like it this way, you can assign common params like volume, cutoff, chorus, filter directly on the keyboard which are the most commonly used params anyways and like you said as you switch programs the keyboard attaches to the selected program. (if you choose to map the controller vs setting up an annoying learned midi map)

Dude I'm having the same problem with my Minilogue XD module when I use midi over USB... Did you ever figure out how to make it stop sending midi timecode messages??

Nah man sorry I ended up just using actual midi cable for it. It’s the only thing I do that for though everything else is USB

Are you using the same MIDI Program (within the MPC) to represent multiple MIDI instruments, or separate channels within a multi-timbral instrument? If so I think that could be the problem. I think each MPC MIDI Program tracks the state of controllers like volume, etc. and then these are sent on whatever tracks the program is assigned to.

My Nord G2 plays on four channels, called "slots". My template contains five G2 programs, named G2 Slot A through G2 Slot D, plus G2 Global for the global channel. This keeps everything straight.
