Can't view internal storage/SSD on MPC Live over USB

Can't view internal storage/SSD on MPC Live over USB

Hi there! I got a used MPC Live and was able to update the firmware to the latest version and reformat an SSD that came with it to exFAT, however I am not able to view that SSD when the Live is connected to my PC via USB. I've tried controller mode vs no controller mode, different USB cables, different ports, and I tried the same on my macbook as well and all have the same issue. I can tell the USB connection is working correctly as I can interact with the MPC via the software and I can use it as an audio device when plugged in with controller mode.

I could see the drive under disk management before I formatted it, and once doing so and assigning it a drive letter I could see it as one of the drives in My Computer, however after disconnecting the Live and reconnecting it I can no longer get it to show up. I reached out to Akai support but they haven't gotten back to me yet, I wanted to just check and see if anyone else here had the same issue or had a fix. Thanks!

you cant. i know - doesnt make sense. but you cant view the internal storage when its connected to the computer. only the usb/sd cards connected to the unit. most people dont bother using the internal storage because of this since there is no easy way to get your stuff off of it/back up. :hmmm:

I'm not trying to view the internal storage, I'm trying to view the SSD (connected via SATA from the back of the Live) and/or the SD card but I currently can't view either. SD is less of an issue as I can obviously just pop it out and into the PC but it's still an inconvenience. The SSD is less convenient. It's weird because I was able to see the SSD at one point after I formatted the drive to exFAT (while it was still in the Live) but before I ejected the drive. From reading other forum posts it seems like you can't view the drives on the One when connected via USB but you should be able to on the Live/Live II/X.

Yeah thats an odd one for sure. The One doesn't have space for an internal drive, but it can mount the SD cards and any drives connected to the USB bus. Your Live should be able to though, I would be dead in the water if mine didn't, thats how I back everything up to my Mac with Carbon Copy Cloner. What version of Windows though?? The MPC needs the drivers to mount, so if you're on Win 11, might need to wait for Akai to do an update..

I'm on windows 10. Didn't work on my mac either so I think it's a problem with the MPC. I don't think its the USB port though as I can see it and control the MPC software via controller mode, just can't see the storage. I bought it used but was able to register it with the serial number so I'm hoping akai support doesn't tell me to kick rocks..

Yeah, me and my internal X ssd don’ t believe any of this. I’m always accessing my ssd, performing clean up, storage to/from computer, dragging and dropping projects/samples to email to friends.

The internal SD card is in ext4 (linux) format. If you want to view/backup/restore it you will have to open the case up and use a linux OS to do so. I used the DD utility in a Ubuntu machine to do so.

Because mine don't do it and my mates cant neither ...
I have an MPC One and he has a Live 2

You guys might need to install drivers from the Akai page before your mpc media/drives show up in Finder/Explorer.
Once drivers are installed on computer your mpc media (not mpc internal hdd) wil pop up same as a camera or thumb drive will.
