Illegal Distribution of the MPC Bible

Yesterday I discovered that one of my 'competitors' sent out a newsletter in which, unbelievably, he gave away a copy of The MPC Bible. I want to be clear that I did not authorise this in any shape or form. This was illegal distribution of my book. If you received this email, please do not click on the link within it. If you have already downloaded, please read on.

The MPC Bible is a copyrighted work, it has taken me several years and 1000s of hours of hard work to create, and thanks to ongoing support from people in the MPC Community purchasing the book I am able to continue improving it with new and fresh content (currently on the 15th revision).

If you do have a copy that was obtained for free, I hope you can see first hand just how much work has gone into the 800+ pages inside it, and I hope you will consider now purchasing a copy regardless.

Just wanted to add. I am of course fully aware that the MPC Bible is easily obtainable for free through warez sites, torrents, facebook DMs etc. But a supposedly 'legitimate' web site, a competitor (as in, he sells MPC expansions) sending this to his newsletter subscribers? This is next level, I can't think of many examples in the business world where this would normally happen in such a brazen manner.

Some people don't have any boundaries. Hopefully it's easy to work through, legal actions aren't cheap.

Well he's ignoring me so far, so it looks like I have to instruct a law firm on this. I have his full name and address, even know where he works. It's not just about stopping this current one, it's stopping it happening again and fixing any potential brand damage.

I found out about all this as one of my customers contacted me and was furious as he thought I was giving away my products for free ('I paid for the MPC Bible, why are you now giving it away for free?'). He thought it was a legitimate joint promotion. Not only does it cheapen the MPC Bible, it creates an unwanted association with this other web site. have no idea how big his mailing list is, it could be 5 people, it could be 20,000. He has over 7000 Instagram followers.

Ultimately, just can't have other businesses giving my products away. The guy can't fein ignorance either, he's actually a customer, purchased an expansion a few weeks ago.

You should private message all the admins on the various akai/MPC FB groups, explain the situation and ask them to permanently ban him from the groups ..... At least that will effect his sales/promotion

They just made me admin of the big MPC group on Facebook, so he won't be getting any exposure there. He also seems to be banned on the other big one.

I just found out he's also selling several of my expansions on another web site he's set up. On that site he's also selling Akai expansions, so they are also on the case with that one.

Yep I saw that, well done.

Regarding his Instagram account, if he advertises or promotes the expansios, you should try and get them to ban his account for copyright infringement. Losing 7k followers is a big hit

He's not promoting any of this stuff on insta, he has two sites, one selling stolen expansions, one selling what appears to be his own stuff. I have sent a DMCA to his host, there's hopefully enough infringement just on that one site to get all his sites pulled at once, especially if Akai also report him. The guy should have just responded, apologised, offered to put things right, end of story.

For other forum members...

Tutor is doing the right thing not publishing this person's information, and keeping this in the legal space. I know many of us would like to help, but we also don't want to have the board be used against Tutor for publishing private information, generating threats, etc. If Tutor needs us for anything he'll let us know, beyond that... just keep being great citizens and reaching out to Tutor when this kind of thing happens.
