By adding keys to an MPC Live all of a sudden you need to have a laundry list of vst's built-in for it to really work? I'm not following.

Akai have a new Oberheim expansion out, 'OB Rising'. Maybe they are trying to pave the way for this new grooveboard thing.

I guess what I'm really hoping is for some new plugins coming to MPC, I think its highly likely if this keyboard is getting released.

You don't have to hope, I contacted InMusic about adding Xpand! as a plugin in standalone mode and the response was: "Thank you for your feature suggestion we are looking into a number of new standalone instruments."

There are more plugins coming. Probably the ones that were leaked ages ago. I'm sure that a big update is coming, this is the longest we've ever had to wait for a Firmware update. I'll be surprised if it drops before July.

They better include more than that "Basic Piano" from the Hype synth. If they're trying to compete with Korg, Roland and Yamaha they better step they game up!

Yes, you need more than just the current sampling engine. While it is possible to auto-sample a multitude of patches, it is time consuming and takes refining of the skill to do it properly and efficiently. (Shout out to MPC-Tutor for the most efficient Expansions I own) Also, the current Keygroup engine could be improved vastly to create more complex sounds. The benefits of using plugins like the Hype and Tubesynth are the streamlined GUI, built-in FX and parameter controls. (I still dont understand why Tubesynth gets variable pitchbend and The Hype only gets +/-2 steps) When using keygroups you are limited to 4 FX slots (and only ONE LFO? FFS Akai!?!), then are forced to use the submixes/sends or bounce to sample. All these techniques are fine workarounds, but using plugins immensely speeds up the workflow, at least my workflow.

If u own a midi keyboard and live or X what is the need for a keyboard version if it doesn't have vst's complete redesign cpu core more memory.. also with the gui lcd it would have to have a suite of vst's.. your going to pay at least $2k for this.. makes no sense at all if your looking for ASR version now adays with the same engine...

Yea AKAI mos def has to make the screen tilt.up and down. I damn sure don't want to be hunched over a screen for too long.

I'm spoiled because I have a live and when I don't want to be sitting at a desk then I can just goto the couch or lounge in bed and still create.

I also think it would be dope if you could get the Arturia Vintage Synths loaded. I mean AKAI works with Splice and with Splice you can rent Arturia Collection.

-Midi layering would be cool..I have a Yamaha TX81Z rack unit and would be nice to plug this into the keyboard and layer those vintage sounds with the AKAI 61.

Well they better be adding some vst, synth engine or let us load in the Arturia collection via Splice or other means.

If this thing is gonna be $1500+ it needs to bring some more to the table as it would be roughly the same price as a MODX...and with the modx it has the synth engine and has some Yamaha DX7 sounds combined with new sounds and you can actually sysex original DX7 patches into the MODX.

Before they release the keyboard they better have fixed the bugs in the software and address audio outs through ethernet or USB properly.... okay idea but we have this already with x , one or live and any midi keybaord..

Ah right, yeah I thought you meant that you could do audio-over-Ethernet on the MPC (or Force). So you're asking for a new feature - yeah, that would be pretty cool.

I think Akai is going to go all out on the Ep's and Piano plug ins. Velvet has become one of my favorite vst's over Lounge Lizard. I don't think Velvet is too process intensive to be brought into the MPC. I think a lot of the new plug ins will be rompler type enhanced with fx.

I don't see any reason why they couldn't make amazing sounding instruments with a hybrid approach. Akai, although some disagree, is no fool. They understand what they are competing against and what the user expectation is. My only fear is that non-keyed units won't see all the new plug ever or at least won't see them until a year or 2 down the line.

I already have 2 MPCs and a Force and can't justify buying a new unit just for the plugs. But if there was some kind of new interactivity between the other units and the new keyboards, assuming they sound great, I could see selling my Montage and picking one up. But I'll really need to be impressed.
