I think Akai is going to go all out on the Ep's and Piano plug ins. Velvet has become one of my favorite vst's over Lounge Lizard. I don't think Velvet is too process intensive to be brought into the MPC. I think a lot of the new plug ins will be rompler type enhanced with fx.

I don't see any reason why they couldn't make amazing sounding instruments with a hybrid approach. Akai, although some disagree, is no fool. They understand what they are competing against and what the user expectation is. My only fear is that non-keyed units won't see all the new plug ever or at least won't see them until a year or 2 down the line.

I already have 2 MPCs and a Force and can't justify buying a new unit just for the plugs. But if there was some kind of new interactivity between the other units and the new keyboards, assuming they sound great, I could see selling my Montage and picking one up. But I'll really need to be impressed.

All This. I completely agree about the hopes and prayers for quality plugins. If you like Velvet, how do you like "Electric"? I found them to be very similar, and your right, they don't take up much CPU or RAM. They definitely can make amazing sounding instruments, Akai is part of InMusic which means they have access to the developers of AIR Structure, Xpand!, Hybrid, The Riser, and MiniGrand. SoniVox is also owned by InMusic which is why we got Solina and the MelloTron. I don't think they'll release the firmware update months or years after the MPC Key 61 comes out, it wouldn't make sense to ship a piano style instrument with only the HYPE Piano as the main Piano sound. I think it will be simultaneous, like when the MPC Studio 2 came out, we got a firmware update. I still can't figure out why the AIR plugins (Xpand, Hybrid, The Riser, Loom, Velvet, MiniGrand and VaccumPro) have Touch UI's in Controller mode, but they haven't made them available for use in standalone. I'm not a software developer, but I would assume that it's easy to make those plugins work. If they really want to compete, we should get 14 new plugins for a total of 22. 7 from the AIR Touch UI, and 7 of the teased new ones from the April 2020 leak (FMX, FMinisynth, Keyboards, Pop Brass+Woodwinds, Piano, Organ, and Strings) All of those would actually make sense for a $1499-$1799 MPC Keyboard. Also, I doubt that it will be priced more than the cost of an MPK261+MPC Live II, which is $1798.

What's really interesting is to compare the features of the Roland FA-06 to the Yamaha MODX61 to the Korg Krome 61 key. They each have unique features that make them attractive to different styles of keyboardists/performers/Producers. I think that the MPC Key 61 will definitely stand apart from the competition with the large velocity sensitive pads and powerful sampling engine.

I heard the HYPE keyboard polyphony is 4 voice so to get a more MPC X-ish unison SAVE and OPEN experience VS a MPC X and ROLAND FA, this should be JUST like we OLD HEADS wished the MPC4000 and ALESIS FUSION over AkSys woulb be like! :smoker:

I expect an announcement from Akai on the MPC Key61 at end of March by first week of April when their FCC license expire in the other country.

I wonder when they plan to release this POS i'm getting sick of waiting for a firmware update lol. seriously though its been since july 5th... why toy with us with these stupid effin images. It doesnt make me want to buy a keyboard version, it only pisses me off more they are dragging out the update.

If this next mpc update is as lack-luster as the last force update i'm gonna howl for akai blood after waiting 7 months (8 in a few days) receiving a maintenance update will not make us happy. Yeah i know i am being demanding and shit but lol idgaf shit or get off the pot already fkn killin us here...

look at our dorky combo MPK261/MPC hybrid ooo aaaa.. yeah yeah big deal give the update before i break your hands! LOLOL

sure 2.10.1 was a huge advancement but its still buggy as hell.. we all paid close to if not $1000 or more for these machines *knowing* that in the future we may have a full featured firmware but everytime we get something new we inherit all sorts of new found problems and the old ones persist. I am getting tired of being a lab rat so akai can make money off hardware redux... its getting old.

I agree Ultros. What bugs me more is that we are all essentially doing the dirty work of finding the problems, and there is very little feedback or communication, or thanks for the endless pathways leading to "oh, this is totally not me being dumb, it's just broken".

I also agree. Its been too long. They need to focus on the Midi Timing and Sampling Capabilities ASAP. This last 2.10.1 update and the one before both have more bugs than I've seen in along time. I really wish they would allow this thing to sample at different rates like the Akai S950, but I get thats a more or less the hardware holding that back. Resample sounds ok but I still use external samplers for the sound I want. If they gave us something like the RX950 which is the S950 Plugin someone else made which is pretty decent, I would enjoy if they added something like that. I really dont need more random effects and plugins. I just want this thing working smoother. Maybe a select all button for the grid? Mind blowing they never thought of that. Type of stuff that team leaves out is a little bothersome even though these machines are great. Its just like they dont use common sense at times. Lack of common sense is just :Sigh:

What'd be hysterical would be if the mpc key-61 wasnt an mpc at all, it was just some ignorant periphreal device like the advance 61. like mpc touch + keyboard combo haha. ppl would effin LOSE IT.

It’ll be a stand alone unit for sure. But anybody thinking it’s going to be much more than the current OS in a keyboard is going to be disappointed. MAYBE they add a couple new standalone plugins but that’s it probably.

Still don’t understand why people would buy this if they already have a modern MPC. It’s like selling your live to buy a live 2 when you could have just bought some nicer portal speakers and saved money.

Hmm u almost had me.. with the old flip phones there older technology.. the new keyboard still had the same OS which they are not going to change just for the keyboard.. remember Akai Advance with VIP software was supose to be the competition for Komplete kontrol line.. it failed miserably.. I own advance 61 and only use it as my standalone keybaord to my MPC X thru usb.. so why would i really want this new keyboard.. now have a smaller drum pad base...

What you heard is false. Hype's polyphony depends on the presets, and it goes all the way up to 8 voices in standalone depending on the which ones are used (using a single sound engine on Hype, you get 8-note polyphony)... Many are between 4 and 6 voices right out of the box, though.

8 Voices on the Mighty Fusion. :worthy:

64 voice on my OMNISPHERE patches VS MPCX 8 voice Hype on a limited standalone memory chip.......

To stay standalone this keyboard could double that memory and voices without adding another standalone MPC.

Akai MPC4000 was meant to talk to the DPS much like that MPC X and SSL BIG SIX "Standalone" YouTube video I'm waiting on.....Tic Tic......
