Hi! This might have been mentioned before but I’ve just signed up, I’m considering selling my octatrack to buy an mpc live. Does the live colour the sound like the older Mpc’s? I’ve never owned an old one but I’ve heard a lot about it’s sound and swing. Is all this still present in the newer machines?

Thanks

No it doesn't colour the sound, no modern MPCs colour the sound, but they do have all manner of FX that try to emulate it. The audio interface inside all modern MPCs is just a reasonable quality, modern generic audio interface.

It has swing options like most sequencers, along with humanize functions, but nothing magical or mystical like some people claim the old 3000/60 had. Get an MPC60 if you want that classic 12 bit sound and workflow, or look at an Akai S950 or S900 if you just want the sound.

You can make the modern mpc sound how you want, MANY tools inside to do that.

Thanks for the replies. Wish I’d have looked into the live before I bought the octatrack that thing is not fun. Mpc just seems like it’ll be more immediate and fun to use
