I bought this Harddrive, works great.

so far it works great.

I chose an external one because i have 3 computers.......and its actually very very portable!

The thing is smaller than an ipod. and looks nice too.

I dont need a power cord with it.......although it comes with one (but uses the "mouse" port) But there is a switch where you can choose external or usb power supply. Anyways, the mpc powers it fine. It only runs when actually saving or loading a file.

now all i gotta get is a usb adapter that is a sideway plug, so the usb plug doesnt stick out as far in the front.

btw. i got mine at bestbuy for 109....there is a mail in rebate....otherwise they are 159.

and i think i might still get an internal one as well; what actually happened was, i almost bought a 512 MB USB stick...for external storage, but for the price i couldnt pass up a 40 gb hardrive! and its small enough that if i need to actually transport it, it doesnt matter.

do USB sticks works to save data on the 4000 ?

If you hook up an USB hub, you can connect several!
Ive connected a qwerty keyboard, a mega steno and sometimes my external HD wich is hooked up to my comp (it needs to be FAT tho).
I think you can even connect like 10 external USB drives! (ie if you got an usb hub with 10 ports )

Watch it tho.. If you get a hub, be sure it doesnt need power. Its more convinient..

Haven't tested it , but SCSI has a limitation of 7 devices (including the Master),but
USB should have 128 devices limitation, I think.

my usb stick works great.

the only thing is that it sticks out, and i dont like that......i feel like im gonna accidentaly snap it off with my elbow or something...........so i would recomend getting a usb adapter

im not sure if its gonna work. Im gonna get it and try it.......ive also seen other ones that have a lower profile, but basically, the idea is to get the plug to go sideways, not straight out, so its not in the way to get wacked.

Beware that not every usb-stick works with the mpc4k, i mailed akai about this and they have a list of usb sticks that do not work well with the mpc4k
