MPC LIVE II -- Can it be an Audio Interface & Integrate "AIR

Hello MPC people.
BURNING QUESTIONS:
#1.) I'm noticing the USB 3.0 ins/outs on the back of the LIVE II... Could this line of MPC's
take on the function of PC/MAC audio interface to handle MainStage & or Gig Performer VST'/AU from my Laptop? There by I could possibly dedicate MPC audio outputs 5/6 to handle that back to my stage mixer?

#2.) In AKAI USA we have "AIR" synth sounds/plug ins. I really like the STRIKE2 Drum machine. It's very musical. So does any body know if STRIKE2 has been Mapped to any of the MPC LIVE 1 or 2 drum computers yet?

Both the old MPC Live 1, the new MPC Live 2, and the X can function as USB audio interfaces when connected to your computer in controller mode.

Not sure about the Strike 2 mapping, but you can always map your own.

Enoch; Thanks for Chiming in.... So just to make sure we are talking about the same thing, I am using a BabyFace Pro to handle all my VST plug ins on my gigs and studio work. So in this example I would replace the BF-Pro with the MPC Live 2 . You say this "controller Mode " is the option to use, OK. But? can the MPC Live2 still function as Stand Alone Drum machine in real time, while also being a USB interface with my Laptop computer.

I am an old school drum machine person, and the "AIR" Strike 2 Drum Machine is a PC/MAC VST-AU plugin. Are you telling me the STRIKE2 Drum Machine can function as a Host for a VST plug-In such as AIR's STRIKE2, while residing within the MPC Live2 ? Thanks again Enoch in advance..... Ken Boome

the computer processor on the MPC L2 really functions like a Laptop etc...... This would be uterally incredible if possible...... Thanks again KB

If you use your MPC Live in standalone, then NO - it cannot function as an audio interface for your computer.

If you use your MPC Live in controller mode, then YES - it can replace your Babyface Pro as the primary audio interface, you would select it in your DAW to be the audio interface, and gain access to all of its in/out. You can run any plugin in your DAW just as you would with your Babyface Pro, though I'd certainly never replace my Babyface Pro with this. I paid $700 USD for my Babyface Pro almost 4 years ago, and nothing can beat the latency and performance of RME's drivers - certainly not Akai's offering anyway.

In order to hear audio, your monitors would need to be hooked up to the line-outs of your MPC Live, or you'd need to plug your cans into the MPC Live.

Fun fact: on the MPC Live 2, the built-in speakers can work as your computer monitors in a case like this. :lol:

Thanks so much Enoch.... It all makes sense now... These MPC's are getting more like computers daily... Which is a very nice feature.
....... I see what your saying --that I could map out PADS instead of "KEYS" as the STRIKE2 DM is already set up. Thanks again for your knowledge and wisdom ... KB

Was curious if anyone has tried this.
If you’re running a model 12 as your audio interface, can you still go into controller mode and gain access to the MPC software? Wasn’t sure if this would work, I’m assuming that if it does you’d just set the audio device settings to the 12 in the software. Would be nice way to get use of my VST’s and plugins while still recording to my 12. Any feedback would greatly be appreciated.

In controller mode the MPC acts like a USB hub, so a connected model 12 should, in theory, be available to your computer as an audio interface (in addition to the MPC's own audio interface). I haven't tried this, but can't see why it wouldn't work. And as such you could in theory create an aggregate device to combine I/O (easy on a Mac, I believe more tricky in Windows).

I know 2 people who had Model 12 as audio interface/mixer. 1 liked it, the other didn’t. Idk the specifics. I remember hearing the faders are post eq which was not preferable. It wasn’t me so I can’t speak on it further.
