If it’s the same mpc os, then it will work the same as current keygroup.
Have you used keygroups yet?

What about Drums sounds on keys :WTF:

So we can't use our 61 keys to assign drums. We have to use the pads is what you all are saying?

Can I have a straight answer with no double talk?
Don't feel like having a conversation with Yoda today. Just want simple answers. I know there's beta testers in here.

Because we know he’s just using an MPK61 as a controller in ableton and calling it a day. I remember watching one of the sonic state guys say that he has a synth collection but when he has work to submit its keyboard controller and a DAW only

Definitely the smaller pads from the One. Maybe a Full size pad version will come with 88 weighted keys and 16 Q links if this thing sells as well as well as Akai thinks it will.

Drum programs already respond to midi key inputs. Its just the MPC default mapping isn't chromatic. But can be switched to chromatic or remapped however you like. What you are asking is already possible with a drum program and midi keyboard. Maybe they streamline the process on the MPCKey but its already a feature in the current firmware.

I don't think yall understand. Y'all keep saying key groups but I'm talking about drum programs. This is the 61 keyboard. How can you assign the drum programs to the keys? How would you map drum sounds in the programs to keys. I was asking about that. I don't know where this key group's coming from.

Exactly.

Currently a midi kybd connected to an mpc mirrors the pads in a drum program.
Other than that, it’s not out yet, there’s no manual, no definitive answer..

I already answered you without any double talk

Probably won't work any different to it currently would if you have a MIDI keyboard connected. If you set a chromatic C1 drum program, the 16 pads will correspond to the keys starting at C1 (pad A01). But as Echolight says, you have drum pads on the MPC Key61 so most will play drums with those.

The MPCkey61 is going to offer the same 'experience' in this respect as having any existing MPC model with a MIDI keyboard connected via its USB or MIDI IN port. If you have a DRUM program on the current track the sounds in that drum kit can be played with your MIDI keyboard, this is automatic with no configuration required, as has always been the case since the first MPCs 20+ years ago.

So with the keys attached, you are free to play any program, be it drums, keygroup, plugin, with your pads and/or the keys. You can even play with both 'controllers' simultaneously.

The MPCkey61 isn't going to change this, it just has that keyboard permanently fixed to the body of the MPC, no cables required. Akai are unlikely to be changing anything in the software to accomodate this, other than, I assume, some additional hardware config options such as keyboard sensitivity settings.

So, assuming your DRUM program is using the classic' MPC MIDI note layout, to configure 'pad A01' you could hit the keyboard key relating to MIDI note 37 (C#1) to select it. Or you can just hit pad A01. This is the case now, and will very likely still be the case with the MPCkey61.

Have you ever used an MPC (old or modern) before?
Because there's no reason it would function differently than a regular MPC + MIDI keyboard plugged in.
Pads trigger a small range of MIDI notes (that you can shift access with banks or customize), and keyboard triggers a wider range of the same MIDI notes from whatever C0 to C8+ depending on the number of keys you have. Nothing more to it, whatever the sound triggered by any of those note. Drum program being one sample per note (classic for sampled drums, chopping songs, etc) and keygroup being one sample pitched up and down for a range of notes (mainly for melodic instruments but you can get creative and do whatever you want).
