100%, if this thing materializes, they better figure that shit out. The lack of support for keys inputting into the editing features is just.....whack.

Let me press a key to set a key range for a keygroup, let me press a key to set a root note, let me press a key to define a drum note map. And yes, let me press a key to map the sample to. Pads+Keys need to be tied together. None of that stuff works via midi currently.

See this guy knows what I'm talking about.

All the other loading sounds up is not what I'm talking about.

I'm talking about

as·sign

designate or set (something) aside for a specific purpose.

Using the keys you guys..

If you don't understand my question just say that. But this guessing and figuring that I never used it key group is ridiculous..

I give up... I see why the MPC has so many bugs that's been overlooked.

1. you got people afraid to speak up for these problems because the I know it all type a responses.

2. The assumption that everything is working the way it's supposed to because of classic models.

3. Adding unnecessary features that will just sit for special circumstances But yet overlooking particular functions that are crucial to workflow and creativity.

Now I'm not saying all this to pick on you guys in here. But I just want you guys to be aware of how you respond and what you responding to. Take time to assess questions and don't be antsy to jump and just answer to be funny or ridicule.

:Sigh

Now you guys can get back to your jokes and having fun talking about Scott. :smoker:

Are the keys going to light up?

You mean using function and keyboard keys as shortcuts to direct functionalities (not menus) as in some SHIFT button + x key to do whatever would be written above that key (like load a sample) ?
This is what this message meant? " load drum sounds to keys"
Could be a good idea but that would be a pretty different workflow, almost like asking for MPCs to be something else it seems.

Not..... sure.... if .... you are...... being ..... serious or...... not.

I and several others already specifically stated drum program. What you call “assign” Akai calls “remap pads”. It’s not a good look attacking people trying to help you especially when what you seek could’ve been found by reading the manual. It can do what you are asking period.Always has been able to. And nothing has changed.

Interesting. When you click on browser right next to that tab on the right it says sample assign. That's where you will assign the samples to pads. But since it's a keyboard how would you do that? :Sigh:

'How do you load drum sounds to keys' sure does sound like you want to load your drum sounds to your keys. That's the question people are responding to.

And no one is afraid to speak up about problems, half of us here are beta testers and spend our time submitting bug reports and feature requests, many of which we first learn about here on the forums. It's not our fault that Akai don't implement certain feature requests or fix certain bugs, we report, we hope, and that's where our involvement ends.

Well somebody quoted key groups. I never said key groups. So that's on them. The first statement is exactly what I wanted to say

I'd really rather they just focus on the sampling part of the MPC rather than all the other BS. They just wanna sell more units as usual. Sure the keyboard version would be nice for others, but really we could use some other features. Whatever.... Let it rain hardware..

When you assign a sample to a pad you are by default also assigning it the midi note that the pad is already assigned to. Change your pad mapping to chromatic and your pads will be automatically assigned lowest pad=lowest key through highest bank/pad=highest key.

If you don’t want your pads assigned chromatically you can manually remap them how you desire. In short where ever you want a sample to be on a midi keyboard when using a drum program is determined by how you have your pads mapped. Like I said early, it’s possible they’ll streamline this with the MpcKey, but nobody knows that info yet. But even without it being streamlined it takes 3 seconds to switch your pads to chromatic mapping already. And it’s up to you to remember what pad equals which key when you are assigning samples or chops to your pads.

Maybe people should wait until the keyboard is actually released before they start freaking out about stuff that it does and doesnt do (which no one here has any clue about at the moment).

Quickstrike2.0 wrote:So we can't use our 61 keys to assign drums. We have to use the pads is what you all are saying?

Can I have a straight answer with no double talk?
Don't feel like having a conversation with Yoda today. Just want simple answers. I know there's beta testers in here.

If you wish to load drum programs into this sampling keyboard and have them layout chromatically across the key-bed a certain way, you may have to load the program, rearrange the chromatic scale to whatever keys you wish, and re-save them as a keyboard program in the order you wish. Because pre-created programs already have a certain chromatic setup and will lay out chromatically automatically in the way they were saved according to midi key setups from a MPC drum machine. Of course you can load any MPC program into the Key61, but loading previous MPC programs into the Key61 will load the old MPC chromatic scale which could be anything across the keyboard. If you wish to establish a basic chromatic scale, and the MPC program doesn't load that way, then you will have to load the MPC program, reassign the samples to keys across the key-bed, and then re-save as a keyboard program from the MPC drum setup. It's not important enough for Akai to make loading old drum sounds to layout chromatically across the keyboard. I would think they would reformat old MPC programs to fit the Key61 chromatic scale format for keyboard type of sounds as new re-formats and sounds to make money off of new sounds that will be released. I think all drum programs will load to either the keyboard or drum pads if you choose. The drum pads into the order they were created, and the keyboard loading sounds into the midi order they were created but potentially randomly spread across the keyboard, and Akai would think that's not important to worry about old sounds, but to buy their new ones or reassign the old ones on your own since it's not that difficult.

I think this is what OP is getting at. This is how the ASR-10 works. The keys are used in the editing process to select key ranges, select keygroups, set root notes, etc. It's marvelous and much faster than hunting and pecking the touch screen, or spinning the edit dial 300 times. The MPC already does this sort of stuff (hit a pad to select a row of grid notes, hit a pad and it goes to that pad in program edit and so on)

My point is it only works on the pads, where it should also work with a midi keyboard in tandem, since midi notes trigger the pads anyway. It just isn't echoing the input.

I agree "shut up and make beats" you must have something else to do....

Can we all take a moment to appreciate how gorgeous the MPC Key 61 design looks? I love the color scheme, and the uncluttered front panel (I could care less about having 16 Q-links, large pads, and all the extra features). I'm just using the MPC for the keys and sampling, so I prefer simplicity and having an uncluttered front panel. The MPC Key 61 design looks like a ferari to me :) I really like the design a lot!!!!! I get it features are important and people hear are complaining about lack of features, but it is arguably equally important for a musician to like the way the gear looks and feels, and to be inspired by the gear a musician will sit in front of and use day in and day out. I think Akai nailed the design aesthetic (atleast for my taste)

Can we also take a moment to appreciate how smart it is on Akai's part to have Scott Storch beta testing/ advertising this keyboard? I mean could they have gotten a more credentialed hip-hop superproducer/keyboardist on the planet than Scott Storch to advertise this thing? Look how cool Scott Storch looks in the new leaked photo: he has on cool shades, he's wearing some cool bling bling, and there are two coke cans dangerously close to tipping over and spilling on the MPC but he doesn't give a F$*k because there is no question him and his buddy in the photo busy in that moment making a chart-topping grammy hit, which Scott probably composed within 15 minutes of turning on the MPC Keyboard :) I also like how there is a TV remote control in the photo. I'm not kidding, I watch television 99 percent of the time while I'm making beats. This leaked MPC Key 61 Key advertisement it speaks to me. This MPC Key 61 leaked photo is not really a photo. it is Art. Let's face it, THIS IS THE FIRST MPC KEYBOARD!!!! A FUTURE CLASSIC!!!!! We're not talking about an MPK controller or one of Akai's other products, This is an MPC for god's sake!!! Anyone here ever see that movie Hustle and Flow with Terrance Howard. Terrance Howard's character is a pimp who wants to get into hip hop music. Then his friend, a character played by DJ Qualls, comes over and pulls out an MPC 2000 and a Midi controller. Next thing you know they're making the most incredible hip hop music in a run down studio while living next door to DJ Paul of ThreeSix Mafia. An MPC is all one needs to make Hip Hop :) I'm excited about the potential of great music that will be produced on this new MPC workstation.

BTW, if there are any producers on this forum who are questioning Akai's choice of picking Scott Storch to demo this keyboard, guaranteed if any producer on this forum (or anywhere on this planet for that matter) gets into a 1-on-1 beat battle with Scott Storch, within 30 seconds of Scott turning on his keyboard, guaranteed Scott Storch destroys anyone's beat portfolio within 30 seconds of turning on his keyboard. This is what Scott is known for, and why he's still relevant today. Any studio Scott goes to, he immediately fires up his keyboard and comes up with the most incredible original composition within minutes. I can't think of a more solid and proven hip hop producer than Scott Storch. Just saying. Just paying flowers to one of the greats while waiting for this MPC Key to be released :) I can't understand why people are complaining about features and comparing this release to previous Akai releases. This is something new. The MPC 61 Key will be a future classic. I haven't been this excited about a piece of audio gear in a long time. It is an Instant buy for me :) Let's go Akai MPC Key Gang! ProTools Gang also in the building :) Peace out.

Yes he would destroy just about anyone who are not a trained pianist... but I hope this isn't the direction they are going for because again we all live the sequencer and sampling..
