MPC Key 61: New FCC Filing From Akai

Make sense if it's the only Akai product you own. Not a bad price I own the X.. but if you have a MPC then all u need is a Midi keyboard

Imagine the MPC 61 Key in retro 80s/90s livery. That would look so good. Either way, I keep checking all the websites everyday for an announcement. This is the most excited I’ve been for an instrument in a long time!

So anywayses, Back to the topic. Akai Files new FCC paperwork for MPC Key 61.

Now, can we get 2 LFOs and a 30 destination Mod Matrix like the 4K? Mayne some sort of semi-realistic Acoustic Piano sound with tweakable parameters in the sormftware as a plugin?

I'm also curious if it will have phono inputs and 4 MIDI outputs?

I also can't wait for the inevitable biased and subjective reviews and comparisons on the Key 61. The influencers reactions will definitely be interesting.

I wouldn't put too much stock into what influencers have to say. Most analysis of flagship products these days from talking heads is incredibly superficial and just amount to a video puff-piece that glosses over shortcomings and how it fares in a real-world workflow. The real proof of the pudding will be when non-influencers get their hands on it and can objectively say what's good and bad.

It's very easy to go on YouTube and get sold on something, especially if there's a lot of implied functionality that sets your expectations a certain way. After all, that's what caused me to fall down the Maschine hole three times since each product launch. "New money for old rope" comes to mind with both MPC Key and each iteration of Maschine. An ideal MPC Key would need more than four encoders, and ideally have faders like the MPK261.

Imagine if the minimum of eight (ideally sixteen) encoders had the scribble strips of the MPC X ala Komplete Kontrol MK1. That'd be an instant purchase for me. I want a consolidated, fully-featured workflow where I'm satisfied for a minimum of five years and just crack on with work instead of saying "please fix x, please add y, please change the UX on z to be less menu dives to access".

That puts Mpc key61 on luxury level.
But Mpc synths and keyboards sounds are not on a luxury level at all.
Not a good idea.

I still think a modular unit with a nice synth makes more sense. Buy this thing for $2500 usd... or.. buy a mpc live or mpc one and a nice keyboard synth like the roland gaia for less. With a modular unit and a synth you also get the benefit of having an extra source for sounds. Think about this.. $2500 usd and all it does is the same crap peoples sounless keyboards do now and controls the daw. it's just built in.

Bummer the tuner only works on stuff thats coming in from the inputs?? I was hoping we would be able to use that as a plugin to check our samples hah.

TubeDigger's video shows that you can use Resample, which should accomplish what you want, no? Just need to trigger said sample while having Resample selected in the Tuner.

It does work on different input sources. Dunno all the options yet though.

Hey guys I just watched tubedigga video about 2.11.
This update is EXCELLENT.
The TUI improvements are huge and finally we jump from the 90s to 2022.
It looks much faster to use and takes advantage from touchscreen.
But still no fast reorder of fx slots and tracks? Tubedigga doesn't say anything about it.
I really like the new ratchet automation and slice automations, great to give movement to static samples.
The Air new fx flavour sounds really great, as always with Air fx. Very nice to have some amp emulations and lofi parameters to add flavour to lame samples.
It's clear all is focused on the new key61 to make it fast to use and to give different ways of tweaking sounds as you play the keyboard, faster sample launching and so on.
The good news is that is also excellent for my Live plus midi keyboard.
Mpc is better and better update per update.
