Hey, I'm just being honest, I'm only going to buy one because I want it, not because I need it. I only use my MPC Live II when in out in the woods or on the beach near my house and I use my MPC X in the studio. I just like how this thing looks, maybe I'll do that Ableton Link thingy you mentioned, maybe my gear lust will subside...

I was thinking the same buy try it and hide it for the next 10 years see what's its worth lol..

Flip side I own the X and have keylab MKii controller which is great so I basically have my K61.. it is temping tho if same processor and ram then hard no..

There are rumors that key61 will also have a inbuilt usb coffee machine.
Anyone can confirm?

Don't we already have vacuum pro in the guise of Tubesynth? It's a little stripped down, but clearly the same synth underneath?

Regarding the references on the box to 'synthesizer', anyone who thinks Akai are going to have implemented a hardware synth inside this thing just haven't been paying attention. I know personally nothing about this new hardware, so have no 'inside knowledge' to share, but have to assume this is reference to the synth plugins; a software synth is a synth and Akai have already developed the MPC software/firmware to run all manner of software synths, hence making this MPC Key 61 'a synthesizer'. And a sampler. And whatever name the marketing department chooses. Surprised they didn't call it a workstation though.

Once again, this is almost certainly an existing MPC with a keyboard glued on. Or if you prefer, an MPK261 with an MPC rammed up its backside. Nothing revolutionary, just Akai re-arranging existing hardware components from across their brands and utilising the existing software with some tweaks that enhance the workstation aspect (eg. keyboard splitting, preset browser etc). Nothing wrong with this at all, why not use what you already have to make something new and useful without having to spend $$$$$ in R&D.

Yeah but if it had more Ram and new Cpu, that would really change everything.
It could run more complex synths and maybe also the great mini grand.
If not, it is exactly as you said.

I think this is the real point of all.
And since we still have 10 days to wait, speculations rise and rise and rise.

As far as Q-link, if they really couldn't add 16 they should have had at least 4 with screens. I think this would be the sweet spot between space / cost on the machine and usability imo. That right side popup they added does help but this isn't good design overall. Same thing for the Live 2, maybe we'll see this for the Live 3 if it ever comes out.

It is puzzling that they stuck with 4 qlinks, even the 8 with led screens on the force makes a huge difference to workflow

I'm willing to make a formal wager: when this launches, it will have the exact same CPU/RAM/SoC as the current MPC/Force. If Akai were somehow able to secure a newer/faster SoC in a reasonable inventory for this, it would be a miracle in today's current chip shortage.

That said, I'd love to be wrong. I really would.

I guess the long term assumption is that Akai will eventually up the Ram/CPU in the MPC range, but I wouldnt want to put money on that happening any time soon, they do seem very happy with the current internals and use them in many different non-MPC devices as well. I suspect they will want to perfect the disk streaming aspects from the Force to make RAM less of an issue.

Sooner or later they'll have to do it.
And it's 5 years they are using the same Soc with different hardwares.
Maybe it's not now, but they will do it for sure.
And if Mpc is already so good with current Soc, then it will become even supergood.
With more complex synths, Mini grand and Velvet, it will be a real beast.
I am not sure Akai is thinking disk streaming as a way to solve ram issues.
If I understood right, it's not very well implemented on Force.
I think putting more Ram is better and also safer for the disk.
Anyway, let's see if Mr. Mpd Mdk Mmt and whatever is trolling or not.
I also predict that at 90% key61 will just be an Mpc with attached keyboard and same Soc.

When the MPC Key 61 get here I will battle anyone up here cause I don't have to feel around the rear; blindly, for a stupid MPK USB hole or maybe get a mirror.
