The issue probably isn't Akai particularly wanting to keep it closed, it's just that the MPC standalone platform runs on Linux and barely anyone is making plugins for that. It's unlikely that any of the leading audio plugin developers would be interested in developing for such a limited market, so it would likely be small and obscure developers at best.

Akai are unlikely to let people just openly release plugins for it, they would probably want to ensure quality control and security etc. There's probably very strict limits given the CPU constraints. If they stick with Air Music they have full control and also minimise costs.

I'm sure AKAI is making decent money on all those sample packs commissions, so premium plugins would make sense to expand income.

Next Mpc I guess.
That's the direction that Akai is taking but it's too early and they need to upgrade the soc for that.
But I bet Mpc is going into that direction.

Ok it's a great idea and release... if u don't own a new MPC then this is diffently worth getting great release for keyboard lovers.. roland sound collection would be killer with Key61.. it would have to have an update processor and more ram for myself to dive in..

I have a general beginner question about composing on a modern MPC: if a user is making a beat on the hardware (using the Mpc like a stand alone device), if you’re also connected to the computer via USB, does this mean the beat will also be happening in real-time both in the MPC hardware and also running in the software on a computer simultaneously? So I’m other words, is the audio being transferred into the computer over USB. I’ve never used a modern MPC and still trying to wrap my head around what it is capable of.

Yea not necessarily open to any developper like the Apple app store but rather with free and premium plugins/packs one could download straight to the MPC from some AKAI store. The Live II has an ethernet + wifi connection, they technically could do it. Dunno about other models though.

Love the UHE stuff, CPU hungry though, would probably melt an MPC One :)

Diva has been melting computers for years, but if you can manage to run at least 1 midi track and freeze the audio then it's a beautiful vst synth. :worthy:

Fixed.

That's why I'm buying 2 of the SAME fixed memory/cpu boards, I mean MPCs

Failed to contain myself and ordered an X few days ago, recieving it tomorrow.
X for the desk with all the buttons, transport bar, Q links etc and Live II for any other place. Bit of a luxury but ah, **** it the thing is just too good. :smoker:
Been looking at those wood panels too, pricey but nice indeed.

No. When it is in standalone mode it is a close ecosystem. Even if you tether it with USB to your computer it does not talk to it. You have to put the unit in controller mode to talk to the computer and then you have to use it controlling the MPC software. You can make a beat in standalone and later open it in the software and continue working. But not at the same time.

Thanks TT_Lab for explaining. I was confused seeing the MPC software running on the machine and also seeing people using it as a DAW running on a computer. Thanks!

Yeah sorry, there is no way Zebra, Hive, and especially Diva are ever going to run on the MPC. Keep dreaming.

Apparently nobody here has actually worked for developers or anyone in the PC industry before.. Not going to happen. It will be a support nightmare for Akai.. Sorry but the users are too stupid even if Akai says YOU'RE ON YOUR OWN, they're going to flood Akai with complaints and calls and FB posts when some nobody cant get some random freeware plugin he found who knows where to install on it. They could've opened it up from day 1, but they're actually doing it the smart way and keeping damage to a minimum.

If you want your PC flavor of the month plugin go run it in the cross platform MPC Software on your PC/Mac that's what it was made for.

Oh man this is crazy. So with all this new pay to play and pretty much subscription activities going about. Do you guys still think this is a MPC. This is nowhere near a MPC anymore.

From here on out I'm not calling this thing a MPC. Especially if you got to pay for the plugins. I'm good

Hype train is over for me. It's time for me to start operation shun Akai.
