Bummer I was interested with the OPx4, but $149 is not in the realm of what I'd pay for an MPC plugin.
Thinking about it I don't even know what I would pay for that. Maybe $50 to $70 tops.
Anyway got hardware, I'll pass on this one.

The market price for those kind of things is around 30/50$. Look at Reason Rack extensions. You can have excellent EPs and pianos for that price.
And when I say excellent, I mean that they do sound exactly as a Rhodes on weighted keys or a luxury acoustic pianos.
So I would say those Fabric plugins should be at least 3 times less expensive.
Maybe in some months they will sell them for their real price. Or black friday or whatever.

Seems like there will be a demo of OPx4 on the 2.11 update, looking forward to see what this is about.

That's more or less the market price.
149$ is way too expensive and without any sense because the quality is what it is.

Considering what Reason Studios is charging for a lot of rack extensions... $149 isn't that far off...
$99 for Friktion, $139 for Umpf... could be they are using Reason and other companies as the model.

That's what I was thinking about, I'll wait for a sweet 50/70% off.

Nope.
An excellent Rhodes piano on Reason Rack extention is 30$. Same for acoustic piano.

I guess at this point, Akai's immediate goal with the new plugins and their pricing must be to make prospective MPC Key buyers feel better about the value they're getting. But still, it made me look at finally getting Extreme Sample Converter or something, to get me some stuffing to my almost empty 1TB SSD. Extreme Sample Converter is something like $50 with taxes, and if I understood correctly, it can even auto-find sensible sustain loops. I have a huge amount of piano and rhodes sounds, strings, etc., all kinds of things just waiting to be transferred to Akai land. I don't need to auto-sample everything, just the sounds I actually need, so it's not going to take months. The list of sounds I'm currently missing is not very long. This is a much better deal - at the same time I'll get better at making sample programs... let's see how it goes.

By the way, the current plugins are actually really good.

... I actually would really love to know what % of MPC users are professional/semi pro vs hobby.

With this Akai stuff I'm completely a hobbyist, and so is almost everyone I know with MPC, Novation Circuit etc. Middle-aged men who do what they love to do, to balance some less inspirational day jobs. I only know very few who even sometimes actually get paid for techno/EDM production or DJ work. If I get paid for music, it's pop/rock, not the sort of obscure fun things I make with the Force.

500 for Fabric Collection, now 250 bc of intro sale. I paid 600 for my brand new MPC one. Isn't the MPC a rompler too on its own? I don't get these prices. Do the 1000$ plugin collection overvalue the MPC in itself? This is a bit crazy.

Sure, but Reason Studio's own Processed Piano rack extension is $99.

Yes they are overpriced. Although I would bet Reason Studios quality is >>>>>>> than Akais Quality on plugin instruments, and yet it is 99 vs 149

And yet is 99$ for a piano which is 100 times better then Akai 149$.
But if you buy other companies pianos on rack extension shop, you can find an excellent piano for 30$.
We bought a Rhodes extension on my studio for 30$.
It sounds exactly as a Rhodes.

Seriuosly Akai !?!?!?! 149 euros each instruments or 500 for a bunch of 6.
Fabric collection / Stage Pianos / Stage EP / Organ : useless ... we all have decent & or better sounding libraries for a fraction of the price these days.

So, what's left ... Studio Strings & OPx4 ...

Studio strings : 149 euros for a pretty static string library (20 GB). A simple volume modulation as a dynamic control ... a formant : not sure of a round robbin here ...a simple envelope control, a filter... Legato & Vibrato controls : i'll give try before i comment ... You had an extra 100 euros & you get some far more expressive string libraries. (sonokinetik, projekt sam, spitfire audio ...).

OPX-4 : a four operator fm synth : 149 euros ...

So, 300 euros for 2 not so worthy instruments ?!?! ... pretty frustrating even though i acknowledge the work of the devs.

Has anyone heard the new Akai EP?

Studio Strings is not 20GB, it's just over 1GB.
