That was my theory too but even when using the custom option, the pad colors follow the regular pad perform thing where they highlight your root note one color and the rest of the scale another. It takes the colors from pad color at that point and sticks the highest velocity color on all the time, so if you pick the 'classic MPC' color setup, the pads are always red and dont change at all except for green when you hit one (and then it also lights up every other octave for that note too). The only way to turn them off is to use Custom and then go into the pencil menu and set the pad color to off. But then you get absolutely no visual feedback from a pad if you use the velocity pad color options. They done broke it somehow.

Something still feels “off”.

Yeah same here, that's why I keep poking at it haha. I cant think of anything else to try at this point though. I put in a ticket with Akai so hopefully that will help. Im gonna keep digging through the prefs and whatnot and see if I cant figure out ahead of them.

Somehow I think its tied to whatever they did with 16 levels and pad perform. If you read the update notes at the end there's a bunch of stuff about being able to use them at the same time now. If I click on 16 Levels, it changes the color of the pads like it should and works fine. Now, if I click the 'Activate' checkbox off, the 16 levels colors turn off and the actual pad colors settings work like normal. On a program set to 'Classic MPC' I can hit the pads and see my velocity from orange to red and whatnot. But the minute you close the 16 Levels window, the Pad Perform settings kick back in again.

In the same place that you'd select velocity of notes. Ratchet and Probability are both there
