Best firmware version if I only use MPC for drums...

... sampling, keygroups and sequencing?

I'm assuming 2.10 is the one but was there ever a more basic firmware without the midi note off bug I could use?

2.8 was the one where they messed up midi protocol.

2.11, as the new Probability (and Ratchet) feature is damn sweet for sequencing, and the new Drum Synth fixes make it a viable drum synth to accompany Drum Programs. Keyrange, Velocity range and MIDI filtering are hugely useful. And then there's the new effects - just great stuff IMHO.

Looks like MPC One shipped with 2.8. I suspect going any further back is asking for trouble!

You're not wrong! That is all cool stuff. I'd swap it all for having the no-two-midi-notes-the-same bug fixed though. Plus I hear about these pops and clicks and stuff and I don't wanna be dealing with that stuff.

I've not experienced any pop/click stuff, but YMMV. Can't hurt to try 2.11 and see how it works for you're workflow, and if you don't like it, just downgrade to a previous firmware (assuming you kept the installers). Just remember to do a system preferences reset after every upgrade/downgrade. And remember if you saved any Projects in a newer version (like 2.11), they won't open in earlier versions.

Yeah, tried 2.11 to see if midi-note-off bug was fixed and they made a worse bug lol. As you say, was easy to go back to 2.10. Hopefully they'll fix the new bugs (I think folk have been reporting them, I certainly have).
