'MPC XL' - the next flagship MPC model?

How long before this comes out (either as a Retro X or a new model)?

How long was it previously between discovering the Live II XL tag and the Live II Retro coming out?

Was thinking of buying an X - if its months away then I'll do it but if it weeks then....

I genuinely think no one outside of Akai knows anything about this, it might not even be happening. There's been no leaks whatever other than this reference in the code.

The FCC has to publish any radio testing results (due to these MPCS using wifi and bluetooth), these happen long before a product is released, so that's normally the first concrete evidence we have that something is coming. 99% of these releases are redacted under a confidentiality agreement, but there's normally a basic line drawing or similar, that's how we knew the MPC Key was coming.

Def a good time to get into MPCs now… and hey tend to hold their value pretty well to sell of and upgrade to something new, especially if you stick with the used market and take good care of your gear.

I do not get it - AKAI is pumping out more hardware in the last 24 month then ever before ...I have the subjective feeling.
I am so unhappy with the whole UI - functions scattered all over the place. And still no propper listing of CCs to control the boxes from other brand synth. MIDI control interface (Prog Edit) looks not only boring (could live with it) but the controls are all over the place - e.g. first is called "Effect 2" which CC code? Should be Modulation = CC1, second is CC14 ok - but why number two in row - should it not be CC2 - just to make it easier? Now do not come with "you can edit this..." With a though like this, why did they not send a DIY box to put the box together IKEA style...
Editing samples are not concentrated in one menue - Sampler, Looper, Sample Edit, Warp Samples, Edit Samples not a hint of a workflow.
A complete restructuring of the interface is required - and: Put logic first
But selling new hardware is more fun....right?

EDIT: I know AKAI is not AKAI anymore since 2005 , when Jack O’Donnell of inMusic bought the company. He is a jack-of-all-trades....

I have a fee problems with the 2.11.2 update on my X ... just need some bug fixes.. as far as a new UI it a MPC this have been there brand since day one.. I would want a revamp if what I grew up on..

Fair enough, my first MPC this is.
Came to it as I needed a modern replacement of my old RS7000 - still in function as drumbox

They really need to just put minor tweaks out like fix it so you don't have to use the software in controller mode to have access to audio over USB plus qlink fix on my MPC X...

audio through usb would be nice forsure.

I absolutely love the TUI on the new-gen MPC's. Is there room for improvement? Absolutely, but it works as advertised for what I need. What I don't need is a new MPC X that doesn't have a noticeable improvement in CPU, because even the doubling of RAM like the MPC Key 61 got wouldn't allow anything worthy of buying a new X, as far as I'm concerned. But.. I'm quite at home on my Force and Live II for now anyway, so there's that.

The TUI is indeed a mess but I acknowledge that 2.11 did try to make more sense with saving and loading. It could do with more improvements at the expensive of changing your workflow as these changes are made incrementally. I do think that as it becomes more and more a preset box, it becomes less and less a creative sampling tool. Less of a MPC.

Saving and loading seems more logical to me then my 1000 ever was..

The 1000/2500 had the simplest and most logical load and save modes possible

maybe the save program\sample is still a bit messy, but the loading part is logical and straight forward, i don't really like those new fancy browsing modes (Sounds), pretty happy with the good old tree structure of the browser.

i think the general layout is great on these new mpc's, i get why someone can be a little frustrated if this is his\her first mpc, but really it boils down to understanding how the mpc architecture is, once you get it you see its all logical and most of all is the most versatile hardware music production tool ever... you can write music in many different ways while most of the grooveboxes rely on step sequencers which are cool for something but very limiting for a lot of musical styles. what i love in mpc's is 1)you can write a song in a single sequence or spred it out on multiple seqs and arrange them in song mode then convert to a single sequence for last touches 2)the ability to address a single program from multiple midi tracks, allowing for very cool tricks, from bouncing between different patterns of the same instrument via track mutes to stacking and layering different notations for the same instrument on top of one another....
