Are you sure about this? The plugin licences are valid for three environments, they are linked to your akai account where your mpc key is registered so should sync when you log in on the mpc software
Gribs wrote:Maybe someone mentioned this already, but you still have to buy the plugins for them to work in controller mode (in the MPC 2 software) even with the MPC Key 61. Akai is going the Roland way, e.g. if you buy a Jupiter-X/Xm or a Fantom 6/7/8 then the Zencore synths shipped with the boards to not include "lifetime" licenses from the Roland cloud. You have to purchase the lifetime licenses separately or subscribe to Roland Cloud at the "Pro" level (about $99/year).

I have been trying to get confirmation. I asked on Accurate's YouTube channel and Akai Professional's FB page.

This would be really good to know for sure, but a couple folks on Accurate's channel said that you have to pay extra and Akai Professional's answer was "MPC2 desktop has all the plugins." I asked for clarification. I would love to be wrong.

Admin Edit: Plugins are free for MPC Key owners in the MPC Software/controller mode as well. No purchase required. Just make sure you register your hardware and then log into your Akai account in 'Preferences > Activate Plugins' within the MPC Software.

Just so you know, a guy named "Jorb" on YouTube posted a review of the new Studio EP. He owns real hardware, including a Wurli. I asked how the EP compares with your "'Electric Keys' 2.0 - MPC Instrument Expansion" and it appears that my comment got deleted. I guess he doesn't want to rock the boat or something.

If Akai makes annual subscriptions, I just sell my Mpc and forget about Akai.
Exactly what I did with Roland.

Roland offers subscription but it is optional , you can still buy anything if you want to ....

Yep, yep. I have a MC-707 and a TR-8S. The MC-707 is Zencore compatible. It came with a one year Roland Cloud subscription. The next year they sent an offer of one license with a one-year subscription update that included a lifetime license for a plugin of choice. The catch was the plugin of choice did not include Zenology Pro or any of the model expansions for Zenology pro. I ended up going for it and getting the "ordinary" JD-800 plugin. That killed my GAS for the JD-08 boutique.

If there is a Zenology Pro lifetime license sale sometime I will probably buy it and move back to a free Roland Cloud sub just to keep access to updates to the plugin along with JD-800 and the editors and whatnot for the TR-8S.

I had an mc707 and is a nice device. I do like Roland sounds and mc707 had nice synths.
But I started to dislike this Zenology subscription attitude, and I wish Akai wiil never get into that direction.
It's ok to sell plugins on internet but I also wish Mpc doesn't become just a tool to use plugins.
I bought so many plugins in the past for computer- eventide, sound toys, izotope etc- and now I don't use computer and with all those money I paid I could get hardware and keep using it.
I am just an old school old man maybe.
But having something physical is always better. That's my idea.

Looks like he sells his own expansions, maybe he doesn't like people mentioning products from other developers on his channel.

Yeah, I also don't really like the subscription model either but I met a Roland Rep passing through the airport and he gave me a year of the Ultimate level cloud subscription for free and I was hooked after that so I pay for it. I can understand rent-to-own, and I think that they should have that as an option for the new plugins, but paying every month indefinitely is not good. This definitely makes things interesting as far as to how the next plugin (or group of plugin instruments) will be launched. Will standalone instruments for the MPC always cost money now, or will they make some new ones free with the updates again? Who knows, Akai will do whatever Jack O'Donnell tells them to do.

What made you get rid of the MC-707? I have the MC-101 and TR-6S and I'll be keeping them forever.

Nothing wrong with mc707, it's a very nice box with excellent sounds but at the end it overlaps with Mpc and so I just kept Mpc and sold mc707. But before selling it, I autosampled all I could from it and I use the sampled keygroups a lot.
I am starting to dislike this new strategies of subscriptions or plugins for sale, but I am quite scared that Akai is also taking that direction.
It's like a goldmine for them, I can understand it, but it's moving to the computer music strategies that were the reasons why I switched to standalones hardware.
But if standalones then become like computers, well, not for me.
Let's see how it evolves.
Opx4 is great though.

This is not true.

I have an mpc key61.
I just installed opx4 in mpc software without extra purchase.
Controller mode on mpc x shows opx-4 also, no extra purchase.

You need to be careful how you word posts like this as this is how incorrect information is quickly spread, Your original post seemed to present this as confirmed, first hand experience. But in your next post you say it was actually just a claim you read in a random youtube post.

To confirm: I've seen screenshots from MPC Key owners to confirm that once you log into your Akai/inMusic account (where your MPC Key hardware is registered) from the 'Activate plugins' screen in MPC Software preferences, you will be able to activate the new plugins (e.g. OPx4, fabric etc) for use in the MPC Software/Controller mode, no additional purchase required.

I can only assume the people claiming otherwise likely have not registered their MPC Key hardware to their Akai account yet.

Acknowledged. I am sorry for my error.

To be honest, I am glad that I was wrong. This tells me Akai is more customer-focused than I thought.

How does it work selling these? Like if you sell your mpc with these plug ins do they go with the mpc? I guess they would have to, you can't sell a keys and the new owner not get the plug ins right? But how does it work?

For "proper" sale , the new user creates a new account (or you transfer yours if there is nothing else bought) and gets access to software.
The problem might be with software and iLok , it depends if Akai gives a new iLok serial , if not you'll have to contact with Akai , else you have to pay a fee to transfer the iLok license (iLok account "takeover" ,meaning you give the user the access , is doable but not permitted)

Unknown I think, I suspect they are working this out as they go along. I assume they would transfer the licenses with the hardware transfer, but that would require akai support responding to emails

No Ilok on these plugins, it’s akais own auth system, separate to the mpc software
