Hey MPCers,

I’m starting to use song mode more and more for live performances, but I can’t find a way of always playing the song, from the beginning, with the hardware play button. It works when I’m on the song page, of course, but if I make any tweaks at all in the main pages, grid editor etc, then pressing play just plays the current sequence. I keep getting burned by this(!) so is there a setting so that the ”play from start” button always plays the song, if there is one?

Thanks!

AFAIK there's no option to do so except you convert your song to a sequence.

Song mode does not work the way you want it to, which is a frigging shame. You have discovered the fundamental flaw: as soon as you leave the song mide page, the song stops advancing.

The "right" way to use Song mode is to only use it briefly, while you are assembling your individual sequences into a song. Once your song feels right, export it to a sequence and forget about the song.

Yeah that’s what I suspected. Thank you both though—I hadn’t really considered exporting to a new Sequence. It is a shame though, as you say, because that effectively removes any of the “live” ability of a song (for example, repeating a sequence while somebody solos until they are done and then continuing the song on).

Seems like next sequence mode would be a better fit for what you are trying to do.
BTW song mode is also great at creating ideas rather than just gluing sequences together once your done. Its 1 bar increments is a bit of a shame but you can workaround this by doubling, tripling or quadrupling your tempo, half timing your sequence. Then you can insert sequences by up to 4 beats(relative to your original tempo). Now you can do drops, rolls, build ups, fills and transitions easily and infinitely test variations out.

Well if you jump out of song mode to the current sequence and change something and go back, Song Mode should be right where you left off. You can hit Play and pick right up in the middle of the sequence or just use your finger and select a difference section of the song and then hit the sequence you just changed. Hit play and it starts from the beginning of that particular sequence.
