What you saw in recents was a PROJECT file and not a PROGRAM.
Project is the ENTIRE state of the MPC when saved, each program, sample, sequence.... etc.
A PROJECT file will recall all the bits and pieces back as they were when last saved.

If you go into PROJECT DATA folder you can see all the bits and pieces in case you wanna restore a certain piece of data/sample. I HIGHLY suggest getting to know what those bits and pieces are for. It will help you trouble shoot MANY things in the future.

I meant project. I am stupid... not quite that stupid. I got the basics down but MPC is pretty huge when you add in all the alternate ways of working, special hidden features etc.
Rather than expand with a modern SSD, I found an old 1TB hybrid drive that I thought I would try. Maybe that causes some issues (inside I think it has a mini SSD for cache and a big spinny disk for store). Trying out non-std stuff when you are new to something complicated probably isn't the best approach.
