Change icons in main screen

Anyone knows if it's possible to edit icons in main mode screen in standalone mode ? I don't think i'll use the XY mode so i'd rather put something i use more often. Screenshot copied from the MPC manual.

I know i can edit the pop-up/sliding sidebar but i'm looking at saving some time.

No, but as you say, the pop out slider is there. This can be customised in any way you wish and unlike the 'main' icons, is available on all screens.
